Kobe Bryant: LA florist's heartwarming gesture shows what the legend meant to the city, story goes viral
Kobe Bryant has given a lot to the city of Los Angeles during his 20 years with the LA Lakers.
The city will never forget Bryant or his daughter Gianna who lost their lives with seven others in a fatal helicopter crash. The eternal impact that Bryant has had on the city and its people was highlighted recently by a heartwarming story shared by a sports media personality who spoke about his experience memorializing Bryant.
Media personality Zach Schwartz took to Twitter to share that he had bought flowers to take to Staples Center, to offer them as a tribute to Bryant. However, a beautiful gesture made by a local florist towards Schwartz went on to show how much people are willing to give back to honor the beloved legend.
"When the florist saw that I wanted purple and yellow she asked, 'for Kobe?' I nodded. When she finished I asked what I owed her. she shook her head, handed me the flowers and said, 'it’s LA'. I almost cried. LAs love for Kobe is powerful," Schwartz wrote.
The florist, of course, had no idea that her simple and thoughtful gesture would be made viral and took to responding to Schwartz's tweet by identifying herself. She replied saying, "You guys this was ME. Had no fucking idea man. I’m speechless."
Bryant is survived by his 37-year-old wife Vanessa, and their daughters — 17-year-old Natalia, three-year-old Bianka and Capri, who was born in June 2019, his parents and sisters Sharia and Shaya. Kobe Bryant's former coach and his father's best friend Wayne Slappy revealed that the basketball legend's family is struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.
We had previously reported that Bryant's wife Vanessa is struggling to keep it together and "can't finish a sentence without crying", her friends revealed. "She has a good support system. She is relying on her faith. She is not alone. But she will be grieving this for a very long time," the source added.
