1.5M fans sign petition to have Kobe Bryant's silhouette in NBA logo to 'immortalize' the basketball legend

The request from fans and followers comes after Boosie Badazz took to Instagram to pay tribute to the late basketball star who died alongside his daughter, Gianna

Hundreds of thousands of fans and followers of the late Kobe Bryant have signed a petition asking the NBA to change the logo to feature Bryant.

Bryant was killed in a fatal helicopter crash in Los Angeles on Sunday, January 26. The request from fans and followers comes after Boosie Badazz took to Instagram to pay tribute to the late basketball star who died alongside his daughter, Gianna, 13. He had captioned the tribute, "Rest in peace, Kobe."

"This shit sad, dawg. This fucked up, man . . . It’s only right that the NBA take Jerry West off the logo and put Kobe Bryant on the logo, man. That’s only right, man. Fuck that, man. You gotta put Kobe Bryant on the NBA logo," he added.

Around 1.5M fans and followers signed a petition that called upon the organization to 'immortalize' Bryant via a new logo. 

The 'Change.org' petition reads, "With the untimely and unexpected passing of the great Kobe Bryant please sign this petition in an attempt to immortalize him forever as the new NBA Logo." 

We had previously reported that Bryant along with eight others, including his daughter died in a helicopter crash. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, "There were no survivors. We have a manifest to indicate there were nine people on board the aircraft. The pilot plus eight individuals."

It was also confirmed that Bryant's wife Vanessa wasn't on board. Bryant widely considered to be one of the greatest basketball players of all-time was a first-round pick in the 1996 draft. Bryant had one of the greatest careers in recent NBA history and became one of the game’s most popular players as the face of the 16-time NBA champion Lakers franchise. 

Bryant is survived by his wife, Vanessa, and their daughters Natalia, 17, Bianka, 3, and Capri, seven-months-old.
