In what comes as a fitting tribute to the late Kobe Bryant, the Dallas Mavericks announced that no Maverick player will wear number 24. As reported by Fox 11, the team made the decision in honor of the legend and said, "Kobe's legacy transcends basketball."

"We are shocked and saddened by the devastating news of the passing of Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna. Kobe was an ambassador for our game, a decorated legend, and a global icon. Above all, he was a loving and dedicated father," Mavs owner Mark Cuban said in a statement. “Our hearts go out to all the lives lost and the families impacted by this terrible tragedy. We send our thoughts and prayers to Vanessa and the family, the Lakers organization and Kobe Bryant fans everywhere."

According to a Dallas News report, NBA teams playing on Sunday also showed their respect by taking a 24-second shot-clock violation in honor of Bryant. Bryant is the Lakers franchise leader in points (33,643), games played (1,346), 3-pointers (1,827), steals (1,944) and free throws (8,378).

The 18-time all NBA All-Star Kobe Bryant died on Sunday in a helicopter crash. He was 41 years old. Bryant’s 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, has also reportedly died in the crash. Bryant was traveling with nine people when his private helicopter went down. It was also reported that a fire broke out and emergency personnel responded to the same. "There were no survivors. We have a manifest to indicate there were nine people on board of the aircraft. The pilot plus eight individuals," Los Angeles Country sheriff’s department said.
