'Kind of an odd pairing': Internet reacts to 50 Cent producing documentary with Gilgo Beach murder suspect's wife
LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK: Rapper 50 Cent's production company, G-Unit Film & Television, is set to produce a multipart documentary series tracking Rex Heuermann's wife, Asa Ellerup, during the criminal trial of the suspected Gilgo Beach serial killer, reported Fox News.
According to The New York Times, NBCUniversal's streaming service Peacock is paying the family to participate in the multipart documentary covering the family through Heuermann's trial that will likely begin in 2024.
The Suffolk County prosecutor has charged Heuermann with three counts of first-degree murder of Melissa Barthelemy, 24, in 2009 and Megan Waterman, 22, and Amber Costello, 27, in 2010 after he was arrested in New York in July.
The payout for the documentary remains unconfirmed
The production company has not confirmed an exact payment amount to Ellurup for the documentary. However, according to NewsNation, the family will get $1 million in the deal, and Heuermann's attorneys will each receive between $200,000 and $400,000.
On the other hand, a spokesperson for Peacock said she is not being paid for her participation; instead, she will receive a licensing fee for handing over archival footage for the project.
Asa Ellerup was seen with a cameraman during a court appearance
Fox News Digital reported that Ellerup was spotted with a cameraman in tow when she appeared for Heuermann's last court appearance in Suffolk County in November.
During her visit to Heuermann in jail this month, a film crew was seen close to the family's Massapequa Park home, where she still lives with their two adult children. She also filed for divorce since her 60-year-old husband was charged with murder.
The estranged wife does not face criminal charges, as she was away vacationing when the alleged murders took place.
Internet reacts to 50 Cent producing the documentary
Netizens are not very happy with the rapper producing a documentary on an alleged murderer's family, with many saying that it was "unexpected."
One user said, "Well... That's kind of an odd pairing, isn't it? But that's what I thought when Snoop and Martha paired up, and that turned out okay, didn't it? I think it's gonna go totally one way or another. It'll either be awesome or the worst crap we've ever seen. There will be no middle."
Another user said, "Well that was unexpected."
"I am not sure he is a right one," added a user.
"What?" asked an astonished user, while another one stated, "Someone was going to do it eventually."
