'I couldn't even dress myself': Kim Kardashian admits she found designing daunting before Dolce & Gabbana collab
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kim Kardashian admits in this week's episode of 'The Kardashians' that she struggled with her sense of style for some time before accepting a position as the creative director of Dolce & Gabbana.
Kim meets with her staff early in the episode to discuss her first show as the creative director, the Spring 2023 show, and says there's "a lot that goes into this," according to People. She discusses the significance of the position with her team members in the confessional of the episode. "This is a big deal to me," Kim said. "It's the first time that I'm really gonna be independent on doing any kind of fashion product." She continued, "I do SKIMS, I'm very confident in that, but I never thought I'd ever have an opportunity like this... It's like SNL... wanted to prove I could do it and do it well."
'I couldn't even dress myself'
Kim acknowledges in the confessional later in the show that designing is "outside of my comfort zone" and that there is "a lot of pressure there." She says she wants her stylist, Danielle Levi, to help style the fashion show so it evokes an aesthetic that is like hers.
Kim said, "I feel like I have a good pulse on what people will want to wear and that's a good thing to me, because not too long ago, I felt like I couldn't even dress myself." Kris Jenner previously noted that the Italian brand has never undertaken a cooperation or anything comparable to the offer Kim received and that "it's quite an honor."
'Such a good opportunity'
Kim acknowledged how this offer might impact her sister, Kourtney Kardashian, and said, "My mom's known Dolce & Gabbana for a long time, and they always were asking me, even before the wedding (Kourtney's wedding to Travis Barker), like, 'Can we do a book?'"
Kim continued, "Kourtney and Travis just worked with Dolce, and that was her whole vibe for her wedding. Then, after the wedding, I got a call saying that they wanted me to creative direct their fashion show in Milan. I think it's such a good opportunity that I don't wanna pass this up."
Is there tension between Kim and Kourtney Kardashian?
Kris had advised Kim to discuss the offer with Kourtney, but the season 3 trailer for the show hinted at a potentially unpleasant encounter between the sisters. The family was all dressed in Dolce & Gabbana when Kourtney wed Blink-182 drummer Barker in Italy in May 2022.
Kourtney was left with the impression that her sister "used my wedding as a business opportunity." In response, Kim said, "I'm really confused how this narrative came into her head. I couldn't have been more mindful." Kim had asked her other sister Khloe Kardashian whether "she's mad at me," and Khloe replies in a confessional, "Livid."
