LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: HBO cultural phenomenon hit show ‘Sex and the City’ iconic star Kim Cattrall who played Samantha Jones opened up about sexuality and romance and how it has changed for her as she’s gotten older and wiser during the Tribeca Festival in New York City.

Born on August 21, 1956, Kim Cattrall received critical acclaim and several award nominations for her role as Samantha Jones in ‘Sex and the City’. She earned recognition as the symbol of female empowerment and appeared in several other films such as ‘Big Trouble in Little China’ and ‘Police Academy’. Earlier this month, the ‘Sex and the City’ spinoff, ‘And Just Like That’ confirmed her reprising role as Samantha Jones as a cameo in the Season 2 finale. Although Cattrall secretly filmed her scene, she recently spoke on the topic of romance and sexuality, and her six-year-long relationship with Russell Thomas.

Kim Cattrall on sexual intimacy

The 66-year-old actress discussed her dating life in her early '40s claiming she was sort of a naive person in the sexuality department. She attended the Tribeca Festival in New York City and opened up on the topic to The New York Times Modern Love podcast. She revealed before surfacing how intimacy changed for her with age, “So for me, at that period of time, I was in a relationship where experimentation was readily available, and it was fun”. She continued, “It's asking for what you want. It's showing what you want. Most men don't have a clue-not the anatomy. They know that. But what in particular works for you” as per People. Cattrall believes that many women may hesitate to take the lead in fostering intimacy and romance because they feel “'too nervous, too anxious, or they haven't done their homework to find out what feels good”. The Golden Globe Award winner continued to explain, “Sexuality is not just about having babies, not just about getting off, it's expressing something in a very intimate way”. Cattrall has been married three times with her last divorce in 2004. Currently, she’s been in a relationship with Russell Thomas for the last six years.

Kim Cattrall’s ‘meaningful’ romance with Russell Thomas

While reflecting on sexuality and romance in her life, she revealed by putting in ‘good work’ with her past relationships and the experiences she gained along, she’s now able to share a ‘meaningful’ romance with Thomas. Cattrall shared her relationship philosophy adding, “It's hard work. It's not easy. People feel that it's something that happens, and you're lucky. Luck is where preparation meets an opportunity”. She continued, “And you meet this person, and the work is just begun but it's not a negative kind of work. This is good work. This is meaningful for your life. So, for me, I am less romantic about it or sensual about it. I feel that it is continuing to work and push and progress and ask and reveal for as long as you're alive”.

Cattrall first met Thomas in 2016 when he was working at the BBC. She revealed that they liked each other right from the start and remained in contact, eventually leading to a romantic hookup in Vancouver. She shared back in 2020 in an interview, “It was very brave of him because we didn't really know each other other than having a few meals together. But he came and we got along great, and we've been together ever since”. She described her past relationships with Thomas adding their relationship is ‘just so easy’. Cattrall expressed her attraction towards Thomas, “He's a firecracker, and he's got a wicked sense of humor. And he's easy on the eyes”.
