LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Khloe, the third of Kris Jenner’s Kardashian daughters, recently revealed the history behind her fitness journey and how her divorce with Lamar Odom made her concentrate on exercising and staying fit. The interview detailed her fitness journey and how she turned exercising from “escapism” to "therapy."

Like many, the ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’ star’s fitness journey started when she was at her lowest, or during the time of her separation and divorce from Lamar Odom. "When I first started [working out], I cared so much. Maybe [it's] just being younger. I think you care about the scale," she shares. "The scale Fs with you. I don't even look at a scale anymore. I think it's really unhealthy. I haven't in years. They're just numbers."

On being asked why she decided to focus on fitness, the Good American founder replied, “The reason why I turned to the gym was actually through my divorce. I didn't really know what to do. Of course, in the beginning you [have to] get over that hump of it being really hard and something so new for you”. However, Kardashian didn't let her mental grief define her personality, as she continued, “But I felt so accomplished. I'm sort of a control freak, but in life we can't control everything. But the gym, what I put in it, I know I'm going to get out of it”. She also advocated the advantages of being a control freak, as she said, “And being a control freak — I'm proud of it — I love that I have that control.”

She then adds how working out helps her release negativity from her life, “And then just the release. If I'm having a really bad day, I go to the gym. I might not want to go to the gym, but I go and right when I'm done, I feel so much lighter. I've never regretted going to a workout. I've always regretted missing them or pushing the snooze button.” The ‘Hydrow’ founder, who by her own admission wasn’t concerned about her body until “media told" she was "fat”, now gets “mental release” from working out.

She talks about her sisters and mother, who encouraged her to come up with her own brand of exercising machines, namely, a series of rowing machines under the brand name ‘Hydrow’ in an interview with InStyle. She found a rower in her mother’s gym, which finally helped her conceive the idea of her brand, to which Kardashian hilariously remarked, "She thinks she's so cool that she turned me onto something.” ‘The Kardashian’ star further adds that Jenner loves the idea, “She loves it.”

Further into the interview. Kardashian says she and her elder sister Kim are the most competitive. While talking about the sibling competition, the youngest Kardashian sister chirped, “We are very competitive, especially Kim and I. We'll be like, "OK, I'm going to beat the meters you got."

Khloe’s fitness advice

The mother-of-two advised, “I think you have to listen to your body for sure, but no one's going to push you. So you do have to listen to yourself and know when you're really tired versus making excuses. The beginning is the hardest — I think the first three weeks are the biggest challenge. And then, once you get over that, I do feel like everyone finds a rhythm.”

As an experienced exercise freak, she additionally added, “Start small — I started [by setting] really small goals for myself.” She then added how in the beginning she made “unrealistic goals” but later realized the futility of them, which led her to conclude not to be “aggressive” and “reward” herself.

Inside Kardashian and Odom’s relationship timeline

Kardashian and Odom got married in 2009 after dating for only one month. After Odom’s alleged cheating on the ‘Strong Looks Better Naked’ author, Kardashian filed for divorce in 2013. However, she kept the divorce proceedings on hold in 2015 after Odom’s overuse of drugs in a Nevada brothel, and he was kept on life support. The divorce finally materialized in December 2016.
