Ex-NFL player Kevin Ware indicted for murder of GF Taylor Pomaski, tampering with corpse
Ex-NFL star Kevin Ware has been indicted in the murder of his girlfriend, Taylor Pomaski, more than a year after she mysteriously disappeared from a house party.
41-year-old Ware could be charged with Pomaski's murder as well as tampering with a corpse, Harris County District Attorney’s Office announced on Thursday, July 28. 29-year-old Pomaski was reportedly last seen alive at a house party on April 26 in Texas last year. Her remains were subsequently found in December in northern Harris County, and were identified three months later. At the time, authorities had already named the former athlete as a suspect in her disappearance. If found guilty, Ware will face a minimum of 15 years to life in prison.

The former Washington Redskins and San Francisco 49ers player was a prime suspect in Pomaski's murder after his June arrest on unrelated charges. Prosecutor Lacy Johnson said the court process is "just the beginning," adding, "We encourage anyone who has knowledge about what happened between Kevin and Taylor to come forward." Investigators suspected foul play in Pomaski's disappearance shortly after she went missing. In June 2021, prosecutors identified Ware as a suspect. He was out on bond on an unrelated charge at the time. The former NFL player is currently remanded in custody on unrelated gun and drug charges in Montgomery County. “Prosecutors presented the evidence to a Harris County grand jury, which determined there was sufficient evidence for criminal charges,” said Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg. “We will follow the evidence wherever it leads and apply the law equally to all.”

Ware played 16 games in the NFL -- 11 for the Redskins and five for the 49ers -- and caught four passes for 26 yards. He played college football for the Washington Huskies and had 42 catches for 463 yards and five touchdowns as a senior in 2002. Eric Zulegar, a former boyfriend of Pomaski's, said he had been talking to her in the weeks leading up to her disappearance. "She was in danger, she was in trouble. There was violence, she referenced a gun being pulled on her. She was very scared, very nervous," he said. Ware and Pomaski had been dating for a year and were reportedly fighting at the house party before she disappeared. The confrontation had apparently turned violent, according to Tim Miller, the founder of the missing-person search group Texas EquuSearch.

Ware has an extensive criminal record dating back to 2007. He was arrested by US Marshals in June after he reportedly failed to appear for supervision. According to Fox26, he had been arrested and charged about a week before his girlfriend's disappearance after being found in possession of cocaine, methamphetamine, and a loaded AK-47. The June arrest reportedly came after a vehicle chase with the authorities in which he drove at speeds more than 115 mph.
