TURIN, ITALY: There was a time when Kevin Spacey was considered to be one of the greatest actors of all time and a nice human being. However, it all came crashing down when a string of sexual assault accusations was made against the Hollywood celebrity, and everyone started to move away from him. It’s been seven years and we haven’t seen him in any movie or TV series, but it seems things are slowly coming back to normalcy as the actor was recently honored by Italy’s National Museum of Cinema for his work in the entertainment industry.

The actor hasn’t been seen in a feature film for the last five years and was last seen playing a pivotal role in the movie ‘Billionaire Boys Club’. Since then, every filmmaker and major production house has been staying away from taking him in their projects and some even booted him out of their ongoing projects. In the middle of the controversies, Italy decided to honor the actor for his contribution to cinema and called it Spacey’s “comeback.”

The National Museum of Cinema in Italy presented Spacey with its highest honor, the Stella Della Mole Award, according to the museum’s official website. While presenting the award to Spacey, Vittorio Sgarbi, Undersecretary to the Italian Ministry of Culture, noted that the world is “witnessing” a comeback from the actor and called him an “immortal man.”

“Tonight we’re witnessing Kevin Spacey’s comeback. The one living through cinema is an immortal man, and it is precisely him that we are awarding this prize to tonight,” The Hollywood Reporter cited Sgarbi, as saying.

The ‘Usual Suspects’ got emotional while receiving the accolade and thanked the National Museum of Cinema for having “the courage, the balls” to invite him and honor him with such a prestigious award. On the other hand, the actor also participated in a masterclass in which he discussed his career and opened up about the art of acting. Spacey didn’t shy away from sharing his love for the art and expressed gratitude toward his fans who have always treated him with kindness.

During the masterclass, he said, “Tonight I consider myself extremely lucky. I’ve been doing this job for over 40 years, and I’ve only ever received kindness and support from my fans and coworkers. And I am honored to be part of this process.”

This was the first the disgraced star was seen attending a public event after he was accused of sexual assault by more than 15 people. On October 29, 2017, actor Anthony Rapp alleged that Spacey, while intoxicated, made a sexual advance toward him at a party in 1986. Rapp was only 14 at the time. Although Spacey said that he doesn’t remember any incident like that, the actor issued an apology to Rapp for his inappropriate behavior. However, things went from bad to worse when 15 others came forward with their stories of the alleged abuse.

The numerous allegations have turned his career upside-down and he is considered to be a liability. He was fired from the Netflix series ‘House of Cards’ as well because more than eight people working on the series also accused him of sexual misconduct. As a result, he had to pay over $31 million to MRC, which served as one of the producers of the show.

As far as projects are concerned, Spacey will next be seen in Franco Nero’s drama movie ‘The Man Who Drew God’ in which he plays the role of a Detective. The movie also stars Faye Dunaway.
