What do Kelly Clarkson and ex-mom-in-law Reba McEntire have in common? Fans say both 'don't trust Blackstock men'
Ever since Kelly Clarkson filed for divorce from husband Brandon Blackstock, the latter's father's former wife, Reba McEntire, has been trending on Twitter. Confusing much? Here’s how Clarkson and McEntire know each other.
Blackstock's father, steel guitar player and manager Narvel Blackstock, was married to country singer McEntire from 1989 to 2015. They divorced in 2018. Although Clarkson isn’t technically McEntire's step daughter-in-law, they enjoy each other company and share a warm relationship. McEntire even appeared in the first season of Clarkson's talk show, 'The Kelly Clarkson Show', and the duo talked about being each other's "family". Clarkson told the 65-year-old country singer, "It's so weird. Because you know when you're friends and family with someone, and you have them on your show, it's awkward. I ended up marrying her oldest son and you got stuck with me more."
Well, things may or may not have turned awkward between the Blackstock men and their former spouses, but Clarkson and McEntire continue to make headlines for their friendship and for divorcing men from the same family.
When McEntire began to trend on Twitter after news about Clarkson and Blackstock’s divorce broke, fans were seen praising the two ladies for still going strong. While one wrote, "Saw Reba trending and thought she had done something problematic. She hasn't people are just showing their appreciation of her and Kelly Clarkson." Another speculated, "Reba was married to Kelly Clarkson’s husband’s dad.... and it would seem that both men cheated on the icons they were married to. Don’t trust no man from the Blackstock family I guess."
Meanwhile, a few fans just found out how Clarkson and McEntire are related and they were so amused that they couldn't stop talking about it. "Reba + Kelly Clarkson divorcing from the same family and then getting on with their lives is the multi cam sitcom content I am here for — let’s goooo," read one tweet. While another Twitter user added, "If I was Kelly Clarkson, I would've done everything I could to keep that marriage going. Not because of the marriage itself, but because there's no way in Hell I'm letting Reba McIntyre go as my mother-in-law!" And some believe that Blackstock followed in his father’s footsteps when it came to marriage. "Oh! Word is his daddy wasn't & he followed in his footsteps literally. People aren't perfect tho it's better now while she's still vibrant & can have another love life not all about kiddies. I wish her and Reba men who cherish what they got in a woman & lays it down proper!” said one.
