Katy Perry is being slammed for her comments regarding the 2020 elections. A day after Joe Biden was declared the president-elect, the singer took to Twitter to share what she did "first thing" after the results had been called. She wrote, "The first thing I did when the presidency was called is text and call my family members who do not agree and tell them I love them and am here for them."

"#FamilyFirst. Call your family today. Happy Sunday," wrote the star who had endorsed Biden-Harris, Fox News reported. Perry has been very open about her family's political disagreements and in 2016 had revealed her parents had voted for Trump while she had voted for Hillary Clinton. At Clinton's election night party, Perry said, "Tonight my parents voted for Trump, but you know what? We will still all be sitting at the same table for Thanksgiving. And this is the moment we need to remember: that we all love our parents, and we all love our children. And I can rest easy knowing that both of my young nieces at home will never see themselves less than equal, anything other than equal."

However, fans and followers were not too happy with Perry's actions and took to the comments section to express their opinions. One such user shared, "I have people in my family that are Trump supporters and we still get along. Hell I’ve probably been friends with almost as many Trump supporters as Clinton/Biden supporters. Are you trying to encourage division? Because that’s the last thing we need!"

Another user commented, "Sorry Katy, but I'm Indigenous, and trump supporters have made it quite clear that my existence offends them, and I'm not about to turn the other cheek so they can go on with their lives with that genocidal hatred they've openly expressed in the last 4 years safely hidden again."

"And that, my friends, is privilege talking. Must be nice to not be one of those people who lost family and/ or have a target on their backs threatened by the very people she’s insinuating we should empathize with now. This ain’t it, Katy. They want people like me and others dead," commented another user.

Yet another user shared, "I can’t call my family because they voted against me and my right to love the person I do so no it’s not family first unfortunately and this tweet is a bit insensitive to those who have a similar situation." Another user commented and wrote, "I know you mean well but you have the privilege to be able to do that as a white person unfortunately this isn’t the same situation for everyone."

Perry had expressed her support for Biden-Harris over the summer. The singer had shared some pictures of herself along with Harris and written, "I’ve had the privilege of getting to know @kamalaharris over the years and @joebiden choosing her as his running mate is already a testament to his decision making: Kamala is exactly the kind of leader WITH experience we desperately need right now."

"She’s the type of person willing to put in the WORK to make our country better. Less than 3 months until Election Day. LET’S DO THIS Y'ALL," Perry wrote.
