Spoiler alert for 'Katy Keene' Episode 2 'Chapter Two: You Can't Hurry Love'

Getting down on one knee and holding out a ring with a heartfelt "will you marry me" can be difficult to process for some. Especially, when its least expected, no matter the oodles of love you have towards your partner. It's even embarrassing when that proposal is dang in the middle of a bustling New York street. The cherry on top is when someone decides to grab that ring and run away. And if you thought this happens only in movies, it just so happens, it can happen to Katy Keene too.

'You Can't Hurry Love' is an episode that speaks volumes about Katy's (Lucy Hale) maturity. KO Kelly (Zane Holtz), her longtime boyfriend pops the question only for a thief to snatch the ring, and all the while, Katy has no idea what to say. The episode sees her wrestle between the yes and no, and eventually ends with her declining it. Not a breakup, but rather a live-in to understand themselves a lot better.

There's some major sentiment involved. KO's mother hands them her wedding ring and it further puts Katy in a spot. The heartening news here is the fact that there are multiple layers that showcase her maturity. There are no rash calls, no panic attacks, or running away or breakups, just deep thought. 'Katy Keene' was touted to be a slice-of-life drama and these plots bring it very close to a soap opera, but it is well-paced. What the episode does is also seamlessly putting in the storylines of the other major characters making sure each of them gets their turn to explain their story.

Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray) lands a job at a record store but already has a challenge in her hands in the form of Alexandra Cabot (Camille Hyde). Pepper Smith is an interesting character and we can surely hope there's more in store for the character. Ginger (Jonny Beauchamp) follows his heart and that's a message to take away for those vested heavily in the show.

To sum up, 'You Can't Hurry Love' is a good watch. It immediately jumps into the characters trying to go about their ways of fulfilling their dreams and puts in obstacles that are relatable and believable. 'Katy Keene' is about characters transforming into better versions of themselves, and this episode is a start.

'Katy Keene' airs on Thursdays at 8 pm on The CW.
