'Can we fast forward this?' Katherine Heigl remembers infamous ghost sex scene from ‘Grey’s Anatomy’
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a delightful reunion, former 'Grey's Anatomy' co-stars Katherine Heigl and Ellen Pompeo opened up about their time on the hit TV show and shared some humorous and cringe-worthy moments from the set. As 'Grey's Anatomy' skyrocketed to fame, their bond formed on the show has stood the test of time. Pompeo remained a mainstay of the popular drama as Meredith Grey, while Heigl departed in the sixth season, taking her beloved character Izzie Stevens with her.
Heigl and Pompeo experienced the highs and lows of stardom together. As the conversation unfolded, the pair laughed about the young and passionate fan base of the medical show today. They discussed the lessons they've learned over the years, including one that left them both amused and slightly embarrassed.
The infamous 'ghost sex' scene
One particular moment that stood out in their discussion was the notorious "ghost sex" scene. Heigl and Pompeo acknowledged that their children have shown interest in watching 'Grey's Anatomy'. Heigl claimed, "I watched every episode when it aired. I was anxious to see how it all turned out." Pompeo added, "Yeah, see, that was not good for my mind to do that, so I avoided that. Many of the episodes I was seeing for the first time with Stella (her daughter) It’s pretty cool to be a part of something that’s lasted this long," reported Variety.
Heigl continued, "There would be scenes that I would be so embarrassed to be sitting next to her watching. I’d be like, 'Can we fast forward this moment?' Pompeo added, "Yeah. This is sex with the ghost." "Yeah, that. The oral sex with the ghost while somebody else was watching in the room. I don’t know how I’d explain that," Heigl concluded. The scene in question involved oral sex with her ghost patient Denny, while someone else was present in the room, leaving Heigl questioning how she would explain it.
'Very few people will stand up for you'
Beyond the lighthearted anecdotes, Heigl and Pompeo also delved into the valuable lessons they learned during their time on the show. They discussed the importance of standing up for oneself in the entertainment industry, even if it means facing criticism. “If you cannot stand up for yourself in this industry, very few people will stand up for you,” Heigl said to Pompeo. “So you’d better learn how to, and you’d better be OK with them not liking you for it.”
Both Heigl and Pompeo reflected on their experiences with 'Grey's Anatomy' and the lasting impact of the show, which is now entering Season 20. While Pompeo is set to embark on a new acting venture in a limited series for Hulu, Heigl emphasized her dedication to watching the show when she was part of the cast, eagerly following each episode as it aired. As they discussed their individual experiences and future plans, it was evident that their shared history continues to hold a special place in their hearts.
