Kate Middleton dons striking LK Bennett ‘Spencer’ coat on Wales visit in subtle tribute to Princess Diana
WALES, UNITED KINGDON: Kate Middleton and Prince William visited the RNLI Holyhead Lifeboat Station in Anglesey, northwest Wales on September 27, 2022. For the occasion, Kate chose to wear all red as she and Prince William visited Wales for the first time as Prince and Princess of Wales. The 40-year-old royal paid heartfelt homage to the last Princess of Wales by donning the LK Bennett ‘Spencer’ coat worth $639, which not only makes reference to her late mother-in-maiden law's name but also echoes Diana's own first official visit to the nation as a princess when she also donned a red coat.
The coat, which is made from recycled Italian wool and is a part of the brand's ‘LKB Conscious Collection,’ has gold horse-bit detailing on the pockets. According to Express UK, the official website description of the coat reads, “The Spencer coat sits in our LKB Conscious collection. Crafted from a luxurious red recycled wool blend fabric by Manteco - the leading textile company for sustainability and high-end fabrics - it's a single-breasted style with gold dome buttons, an oversized collar, a tailored silhouette, and front patch pockets finished with gold snaffle detail. Wear it over tailored trousers and a knit or your favorite winter dresses.”

The Princess of Wales also wore black flared pants and a black Boden cashmere crewneck underneath her new coat. Kate gave another nod to Princess Diana with her jewelry, sporting her gold ‘Alia’ hoops from the small Welsh brand Spells of Love. She completed her look with two other previously worn pieces, her black Grace Han “Love Letter” top-handle bag and Russell and Bromley black heels. Meanwhile, the recent sighting was the royal couple's first official public appearance since Queen Elizabeth's passing on September 8, 2022.
According to Daily Mail, a spokesperson for the Prince and Princess said, “Right now they are focused on deepening the trust and respect they have with the people of Wales over time.”
The royal red sighting is more notable as traditionally royals enter a period of half-mourning after the official period of public grieving for a member of the family is over, however, the palace announced on September 27 on social media that the period of mourning for the late monarch had ended.
The prince and princess welcomed members of the Welsh community and went to a lifeboat station during their visit to Anglesey, where they resided prior to taking on full-time royal duties in London. They will next travel to Swansea before heading back to Windsor.
