The Arizona gubernatorial elections just heated up, with Donald Trump choosing to endorse Kari Lake. The former anchor and journalist is one of the many GOP candidates running for governor in what is expected to be a very close race. On September 28, she benefitted from an endorsement from the former President, who praised her while slamming incumbent Governor Doug Ducey.

The gubernatorial election, scheduled for November 8, is expected to be a major test of the GOP's popularity in the once red state. Biden's narrow win in the 2020 Presidential election indicates that there is an appetite for Democratic politicians. The win was reaffirmed after Cyber Ninjas released the results of its controversial audit in Maricopa County. Despite promising to unveil fraud, the case collapsed with the group finding that Trump lost by even more votes.

That hasn't stopped Trumpworld from launching challenges in other states, but like Maricopa, they are all expected to indicate a clean Biden win. Meanwhile, Trump continues to play coy on a possible run in 2024 but appears to be extremely active otherwise. He regularly meets with GOP leaders and often weighs in on key races across the country. He has now turned his eyes to Arizona and decided to back Lake over other GOP candidates - Jorge Rivas, Karrin Taylor Robson, Matt Salmon, and Kimberly Yee.

'Kari will make MAGA very proud'

Offering flowering praise for the former Fox anchor, Trump promised it "won't even be a contest" against "RINO Governor Doug Ducey". He also added "few can take on the fake news media like Kari," noting her years of experience with KSAZ-TV, a Fox-owned station based in Pheonix. "She's against Covid lockdowns, cancel culture, and will end "woke" curriculum in our schools, he added. And of course, Trump couldn't resist but mention election integrity.

"Kari will make her family, and the MAGA movement, very proud... she will be an incredible Governor for the people of Arizona," Trump concluded. Lake responded by sharing that endorsement on Twitter, adding, "Thank you, President Trump, for your endorsement. This means so much to me because I know how much you love America and how much the people of this country love you! I promise to fight as hard for the people of Arizona as you have fought for us."

While some celebrated Trump's endorsement, others were quick to troll Lake over the endorsement. As usual, Twitter was quickly filled with people poking fun at Lake for securing the highly-contested Trump endorsement.

'Kari Lake doesn’t care about Arizonans'

"Kari Lake doesn’t care about Arizonan’s or winning the election. She just wants to get rich. She knows fools and their money are easily parted and there are no bigger fools than Trump supporters. Even she doesn’t believe the garbage she says," one person tweeted. Another said, "Yee could’ve easily won Kari Lake is just a yes man to trump who has no real policy positions other than some election bs." One user commented, "Kari Lake was one my favorite news anchors. Now she's completely lost her damn mind."

"I know almost nothing about Kari Lake. All I know is that she seems big on the "Stop the Steal" stuff. I'm not too sure that'll play well in Arizona," said one person. Another commented, "Kari Lake doesn't stand a chance if she's the nominee. Way to (sic) Trumpy for a swing state like Arizona. I bet the @azdemparty is happy Trump endorsed Lake, they should be!" One user tweeted, "Considering that Trump himself lost the state, there’s no way his endorsement pushes Kari Lake to a win. They’ll put more effort into prepping for the audit than they will for the campaign."

An endorsement from Trump is far from a clear path to victory, as history shows. In the 2018 midterms, Trump's endorsements "was more detrimental than helpful" The Conversation noted. "Trump’s 2018 endorsements decreased the endorsed candidate’s vote share by almost 2.5 percentage points," the publication said. So things may appear to get tougher for Lake from here on.
