Kanye West first announced his 2020 United States presidential election campaign as an independent candidate from Illinois, Chicago, in July, but he had to leave the race in August after the election officials in different US states came to the conclusion that the 43-year-old rapper was not eligible to appear on their state ballots.

This might have ruined the presidential dreams of the American rapper this year but that did not stop him from continuing to talk about it on his official Twitter account. On October 9, the Grammy-award winner shared a photo where we can see his name scribbled on the official ballot for the presidential election. It's clear that the individual was a Kanye supporter as he/she circled the option of “write-in” in the list just beside the rapper's name. We can also spot the names of Donald Trump and Joe Biden along with their running mates Mike Pence and Kamala Harris respectively.

The moment Kanye shared the pic, Twitteratis slammed him on the micro-blogging site. But what baffled some people was that Kanye's name was already on the ballot list, but under the option of Vice President. According to Newsweek, the reason why this happened was because The American Independence Party (AIP) named Kanye as the VP candidate due to his political views as well as his celebrity connections.

Speaking on why they chose Kanye for the VP post, AIP Chairman Markham Robinson told Newsweek, "Well, he wasn't available for President. Kanye is an example of a good thing that we found along the way. His platform is really pretty good. We loved the fact that he used scriptural references to justify his points." Newsweek also reported that Kanye was picked alongside the independent presidential candidate Roque “Rocky” De La Fuente but he did not know that Kanye was going to be his California running mate until it was official.

While sharing the photo, the ‘College Dropout’ hit-maker tweeted, “Friends writing me in.”

Slamming the rapper for the post, one user said, "You’ve become a sad joke, Kanye." Taking a dig at Kanye and Taylor Swift’s earlier beef, one user posted, "You cant even beat taylor swift in album sales..." Another user added, "You’re seriously trying to get Trump re-elected, aren’t you. Just stop. This s**t isn’t a game. Use your platform in a positive way, not in a way to steal votes."

One Twitterati shared, "Real talk Ye.... why are you really doing this and do you honestly think you have a real shot of winning?" One individual tweeted, "I hope y’all know this is just an attempt to sway the young vote away from Biden." One user noticed that Kanye's name was already printed in the ballot list but under the Vice President category. The user tweeted, "Why did they write you in when you’re literally on the ballot already? Are you or are you not Kanye Omari West??" Another user noticed the same and stated, "I was not prepared to see Kanye West actually on my ballot but this is 2020 so why didn’t I expect that?”

One said, "How utterly ridiculous and a waste of a vote. Don't do it. #VoteBidenHarris2020," and another tweeted, "For the love of god please do not write in kanye west for f***ing president. it will literally do NOTHING but waste your vote. please. do. not. do. this."

According to TMZ, Kanye is now apparently cashing in on his presidential campaign stunt by introducing brand new merchandise. Kanye has introduced a section on his official website where he unveiled a collection that includes $60 hats and $160 hoodies and the items have messages such as “Vote Kanye” and “God Save America".
