Why is Kanye West being sued for $7.1million?
TMZ reported that Phantom Labs’ attorney Howard King revealed that Kanye West was first all good about clearing out the payments. However, it wasn’t long before the bills started to pile up. It has been reported that the production house was owed more than $6 million.
In a statement to Variety, a spokesperson for Phantom Labs asserted, “We are incredibly proud of the work that we did with Ye and are disappointed that such a fruitful relationship has come to this” adding, “A celebrity weaponizing fame and reputation to take advantage of eager collaborators is simply unacceptable.”
The documents obtained revealed that the ‘Donda’ hitmaker had allegedly promised to settle his debt with the help of $9 million he was about to get as a headliner for Coachella. However, the rapper backed out two weeks prior to the coveted event leading to further issues with the production house. Phantom Labs, in addition to the $6 million tabs, slammed the rapper with an additional $1.1 million to recover Coachella-related work. Kanye West has not yet commented on the lawsuit. The David Casavant Archive which promotes itself as a "private collection of the world's rarest and most coveted garments", began working with Ye in 2014 and has featured him and his former wife Kim Kardashian 12 times on their online portfolio. According to the publication Marca, Casavant Archive's lawyers stated, “The items are all rare, esteemed pieces valued for their scarcity and importance in fashion history” adding, “They are not fungible commodities. The replacement fees reflect the loss of future rentals, loan opportunities, publicity, and the lost value to the Archive as a whole, as each lost item is part of a greater collection that derives its value from its completeness."
