Rapper Kanye West, on Saturday, confirmed longstanding speculations that he has converted to Christianity. The 42-year-old singer made a surprise appearance at Howard University in Washington D.C. over the weekend and held a listening part of his upcoming album 'Jesus Is King'.

West, during the listening party, confirmed that he is officially a Christian, according to TMZ. The news came as no surprise considering the name of his new album and his weekly Sunday Service tradition. He had been holding his Sunday Service worship services since the beginning of this year, however, he had not confirmed his conversion until the weekend.

West, in a video of his confirmation obtained by the outlet, was heard discussing a line in a Jay-Z song where the singer said: "Forced into sports or entertainment." West, remarking on the line, said: "I want to let you know that I am not here for your entertainment this afternoon. We are here to spread the gospel. Excuse me if I mispronounce anything. I am a recent convert. It means I recently got saved within this year," he added.

The video, taken during the listening party, also featured a section with a saxophone solo, which sounds as if played by Kenny G. There are speculations of the remarkable musician being featured on the upcoming album.

West had reportedly hired Kenny G to play at his home for his wife Kim Kardashian on Valentine's Day.

A clip from West's new song titled "Closed on Sunday" was also played during the event. The song's lyrics included: "Closed on Sunday, just like Chick-Fil-A," the lyric being a reference to the popular fast-food chicken restaurant being closed for religious reasons.

The release date of West's new album has not yet been announced, it was initially scheduled to release on September 27 this year. Considering that West has been holding listening parties for 'Jesus Is King', the album may drop soon.
