Kanye West’s $225K childhood home is a crumbling nightmare with trash and drug paraphernalia strewn everywhere
Billionaire rapper Kanye West has bought back his childhood home in Chicago for a humble sum of $225,000.
But the house looks to be totally out of shape, with dirt and trash strewn about everywhere. The father-of-four, who was recently named a billionaire by Forbes magazine, decided to buy back his childhood home decades after it was abandoned by his family and riddled with trash, demolished doors, and broken windows.
Considering the home is completely falling apart, it will need at least $60,000 worth of repairs, according to a report by the Daily Mail.
The report stated that it would be cheaper for Kanye to demolish the decrepit home than fix it back up. The boards that hold the house together on the outside are visibly coming apart, while there are several shingles missing on its crumbling roof.
Meanwhile, the home has been turned into a total dumpster, with every nook and corner covered with what seems to be drug paraphernalia and empty water bottles strewn everywhere. The backdoor is also completely boarded up, according to the report.
That said, all the windows in the residence are either broken or have been deliberately painted over in order to keep them in place. The few doors which remain have been bolted with heavy locks and laced with broken glass, indicating the house may have been vandalized or broken into in the past.
Furthermore, there is nothing but a poorly-placed chainlink fence around the home to keep people off the property. The report also mentioned how insects have made the house their own property; parts of it are covered in huge cobwebs with spiders running around them.
Inside the property, most counters have reportedly been ripped out. The closet doors have been ripped from their hinges and the wooden floors have been destroyed beyond recognition.
Meanwhile, there is a bed frame and some items of clothing in one of the rooms.
What's more? Mold has taken over the entire house.
In the year 2016, rapper Rhymefest started Donda's Home charity as a tribute to his childhood pal's mother Donda West. Serving as the creative director, the rapper was trying to help at-risk youth. But the foundation collapsed after Kanye and his wife Kim Kardashian reportedly got into a feud with Rhymefest, whose real name is Che Smith.
According to the report, the home was originally slated to serve as the charity's headquarters and would feature a full-fledged recording studio and a museum. However, the fallout meant that would never happen, with Rhymefest even taking Donda's name off the non-profit.
Donda had first bought the home in 1980 to raise her family, but eventually sold it in 2004 before moving to California to work as Kanye's manager. She had reportedly mentored Rhymefest while working as an English professor at the Chicago State University.
But she tragically passed away in 2007 from cardiac arrest following a series of cosmetic procedures, per the report. Fast forward to April 2020, megastar billionaire Kanye is yet to reveal what he plans to do with his childhood home.
Nonetheless, he is currently isolating with his reality TV mogul wife and their four kids in their sprawling $60 million mansion in Los Angeles.
