It almost seems like Kanye West and Taylor Swift’s infamous celebrity feud will never rest, as the 43-year-old rapper has revealed a few startling details about the MTV Video Music Awards night from over a decade ago where he interrupted Swift during her acceptance speech. In a 45-minute interview for Nick Cannon’s podcast 'Cannon's Class', West explained that "God" made him interrupt Swift's speech during the 2009 MTV VMAs.

For the uninitiated, here’s what happened during the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards. Swift had received only one nomination under the category of 'Best Video by a Female Artist' for her video 'You Belong With Me'. Undeniably, Beyonce with a nomination for 'Single Ladies' was her biggest competition. However, the award was presented to Swift and she took to stage to accept it when West interrupted her midway through her speech to say that Beyonce deserved the award better.

He went on to say, "Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I'mma let you finish," he said. "But Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time! One of the best videos of all time!"

The rapper was even spotted carrying a bottle of Hennesy to the event and was reportedly drinking from it throughout the award ceremony. According to Vox, he was eventually asked to leave the event.

More than ten years later, West once again touched upon the highly controversial topic by explaining in detail the factors that influenced his behavior that night. He told Cannon, "Right now, God is giving me the information. If God ain't want me to run on stage and say Beyoncé had the best video, he wouldn't have sat me in the front row. I would've been sitting in the back. It wouldn't have made it so ridiculous of an idea because I had never heard of this person before, and 'Single Ladies' is, like, one of the greatest videos of all time."

Addressing his alcohol consumption during the event he added, "And I was only drinking Hennessy because I didn't want to go to the awards show because it was a set-up." West further noted that he actually started reading the Bible only after he was put in the hospital in 2016. "That was part of what God hit me with. You know, God has a calling on all of us and he uses us in different ways," he said.

The ‘More Than Anything' singer's latest statement, similar to many others from earlier, has garnered a range of reactions on Twitter, with some blaming his drunkenness for his unacceptable behavior. One tweeted, "Kanye West claims that 'God' inspired him to interrupt Taylor Swift ⁦@kanyewest you know damn well it was the Henny that had you up on that stage acting a fool. Just let it die for real. U ruined her moment & the Queen gave her a chance."

Seconding the previous tweet one user wrote, "Kanye West/Trash stop using Taylor Swift name again and stop using GOD name to make noise about your trash album and trash personality."

Another tweeted, "Kanye West claims that 'God' inspired him to interrupt Taylor Swift at 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. Needs help!"

Accusing him of using Swift's name to gain relevance, one tweeted, "Y’all say Taylor Swift can’t move on when she hasn’t spoken about him in YEARS, when Mr narcissistic Kanye says this sh*t. If God didn’t tell you not to murder someone, would you kill someone because of that Kanye? @kanyewest Get a life and stop using her to be relevant again."
