Who is Kali Reis? Boxing champ joins HBO's 'True Detective' Season 4 alongside Jodie Foster
Professional boxing champion and human rights advocate Kali Reis is all set to star alongside Oscar-winning actress Jodie Foster. The 35-year-old actress is going to be seen in the Emmy-nominated crime-thriller anthology series ‘True Detective’ Season 4. The series would be premiering on HBO.
The upcoming season of the crime-thriller anthology series has been titled as ‘True Detective: Night Country’. The official synopsis of the series according to HBO reads, “When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the six men that operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis) will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.” ‘True Detective’ Season 4 is going to be filmed in Iceland.

Who is Kali Reis?
Kali Reis, a World Boxing Association (WBA) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) junior welterweight champion, paved her way into Hollywood by debuting in an indie film titled ‘Catch the Fair One’. She also helped to develop and conceptualize the story along with director Josef Kubota Wladyka. She not only earned her a special Jury mention for best actress at the coveted Tribeca Film Festival 2021, but this film ended up winning the Audience Award, along with an Indie Spirit Award 2022 nomination for the Best female lead. Her amazing performance in the movie caught the attention of ‘True Detective’ producers. Reis will play the role of Detective Evangeline Navarro in the series.
Reis is the world’s first indigenous American boxing female champion. She made her television debut on HBO in 2018 with the network’s 'HBO Boxing' franchise. Reis recently finished the principal photography of her second Hollywood movie ‘Black Flies’ in which she stars opposite Sean Penn and Tye Sheridan.
Reis is also a motivational speaker and staunch vocal supporter of the ‘Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls movement’. She also teaches young women how to fight both physically and verbally against the targeting of Native youths as well.
