Justin Theroux and Katie Holmes went on 'top secret' date: 'Their chemistry is off the charts'
Rumors have been making the rounds that Justin Theroux is dating Katie Holmes, potentially giving fans a new romance to cheer on and celebrate.
Their romance was first reported back in October 2019, when the Star quoted an anonymous source and reported that the pair had recently had a "top-secret" meetup at a restaurant in New York City.
"It was very romantic," the source said at the time. "Justin and Katie hit it off immediately. It was pretty much the ultimate first date," adding that the latter's friends think they make the "perfect match" as they both live in the same city, and are both "artsy and love Indie films."
Holmes, in particular, was said to have been very smitten by Theroux. "She couldn’t wait to tell her girlfriends and her sisters about their first date," the source shared. "She bragged about it like a schoolgirl crushing on the most popular boy in school."
Theroux was quite taken by the 'Dawson's Creek' actress as well. "He wants to see Katie again," the source added. "Their chemistry is off the charts, and their friends are all for it… Everyone is rooting for them."
Woman's Day reported on their blossoming relationship as well. The outlet said they had been on a string of dates, including a "cozy dinner at her apartment, where it's believed he stayed the night."
"One of her friends was chatting on the phone the morning after and she swears she heard Justin in the background," an insider revealed.
The insider went on to suggest that the alleged couple were "trying very badly" to take things slow for the sake of Holmes' 13-year-old daughter Suri. "But Suri has met Justin, and she's convinced her mom to go for it," the insider added.
The source even claimed that their relationship was a sort of a "revenge romance" to get back at their exes, Jennifer Aniston and Jamie Foxx. Aniston was said to have been particularly displeased about their pairing and went "as far as calling Katie a has-been."
But her friends were all for it. "She needed to find a middle ground – someone between Tom [Cruise] and Jamie. Justin isn’t controlling like Tom and he’s not a player like Jamie. He fits the bill," the insider said.
Little was said about the rumors for the months that followed, but late in March, Woman's Day quoted another insider and again reported that Holmes and Theroux were "hotter than hot for each other."
"Things have certainly stepped up a notch or two," the source said. "They’ve become extremely close and given they’re both lovers of their home city of New York, they’re enjoying sharing their favorite spots with one another. They’ve been sneaking around the city inconspicuously, which they could never do in Los Angeles."
The source shared that they had visited Holmes’s favorite bookstore and Theroux took her to a friend’s art exhibition.
However, according to Gossip Cop, the rumors of them dating is false. The website said they had reached out to Holmes' spokesperson for clarification and was informed that the actress "doesn't know Justin."
Indeed, there is no evidence that they were ever even in the same room together let along being in an intimate relationship. However, there may be hope yet.
Holmes is famously private about her relationships and only confirmed she was dating Foxx more than three years after they got together. They were seen together for the first time at a public event four years after, so it's still possible she's trying to keep a relationship with Theroux under wraps.
