Justin Bieber discovers he's related to Ryan Gosling and Avril Lavigne after 'super legit' genealogy search
Justin Bieber found two new ancestral connections in Hollywood and the singer couldn't contain his excitement. After a "super legit" genealogy search on Ancestry.com, the 25-year-old found out that he’s related to fellow Canadians Ryan Gosling and Avril Lavigne.
The 'Baby' singer took to Instagram on Saturday, August 31, to announce the news: “I also just found out that I’m related to both Ryan Gosling and Avril Lavigne. This is the best day of my life. It seems super legit. It’s on ancestry.com."
With more than 20 billion users, the genealogy website claims to have the "world’s largest collection of online records."
Bieber also attached a photo of his family tree which showed that Ryan Gosling, 38, is Bieber's 11th cousin and Avril Lavigne, 34, is a 12th cousin. Both celebrities are related to Bieber through his mother, Pattie Mallette.
Less than a minute after posting the photo on Instagram, Bieber tweeted, “Today is a good day.”
If the data from Ancestry.com are to be believed, all three—Bieber, Gosling and Lavigne—have Mathurn Roy and Marguerite Biré as their 11th great grandparents.
Interestingly, the trio seem to be natives of the province of Ontario. While Bieber grew up near Toronto in Stratford, Gosling hails from the city of London, and Lavigne was born in the town of Belleville.
This is not the first time Bieber has expressed his admiration for Gosling. Not long ago, the singer posted a photo of the actor on his Instagram account and wrote: "It’s about time we get another movie from the man, the legend Ryan Gosling."
Justin Bieber exchanged vows with partner Hailey Baldwin, 22, last September. The singer, who recorded his first song at the age of 13 and won his first Grammy in 2016, seems to have an odd choice for the “best day” of his life.
