Justin Bieber is reportedly back in touch with his ex-girlfriend, Selena Gomez, and had even complained to her during the coronavirus lockdown that his wife, Hailey Baldwin was "a little too obsessed with religion."

A source told the Sun that the 'Sorry' singer who famously had an on-and-off relationship with Gomez for years before settling down with childhood friend Baldwin in September 2018, has gotten back in contact with the 'Lose You To Love Me' singer. Apparently, from Bieber's perspective, talking to one's ex-lover did not necessarily mean that one was cheating on their spouse and all he does is share his thoughts with Gomez. "Selena has kept her distance from Justin but he recently started contacting her again," the insider told the publication. "He doesn't believe he should be cut off from those people he was closest to in his life and doesn't believe talking is cheating. He loves Hailey dearly but he does complain about her sometimes and Selena says it's sad. He feels she is a little too obsessed with religion sometimes. He basically feels like she has gone too far."

Despite being religious himself and maintaining a close relationship with Hillsong pastor, Carl Lentz, Bieber feels like Baldwin "needs to chill." "Selena understands Justin never stopped loving her and also realizes quarantining during Covid has been tough for most relationships so she isn't surprised that he has been calling," the source said. "She doesn't mind being a shoulder to cry on but really doesn't want it to get back to Hailey. She knows how much that would hurt. Selena is kind and the last thing she would ever want is to be part of the trouble in their relationship. She has moved on.”

It was through the Hillsong Church that Baldwin reconnected with Bieber. In an interview with Elle Magazine, she said that she "found" God later in her life. "As I got older, it got harder to follow the church and the Bible because it felt very adult. I don’t want to sound wrong, but it was boring," she said. "I didn’t care about it anymore until I found a church I felt was geared toward young people, And for me, that was the Hillsong Church in New York City. Then I developed my own relationship with the church and my own relationship with God, separate from being raised that way by my parents. That’s been a cool journey for me.”

As for 'Jelena' fans, although Bieber's marriage dealt a huge blow to the fandom, they were briefly thrilled to find out that Bieber might be keeping tabs on Gomez after all, after the latter's HBO Max cooking show, 'Selena & Chef,' was spotted on the browsing list of her ex's TV in the background of an Instagram Story.

Gomez's poignant and pointed lyrics on songs like 'Lose You To Love Me' and 'Rare' has been seen by many fans as direct references to the turbulent relationship she shared with the Canadian pop star. Bieber dated Gomez on and off from 2010 till 2018. Their volatile relationship was filled with multiple breakups and drama-filled episodes that turned their love story into an ongoing "will they-wont they" saga for fans. In between, Gomez also had a brief relationship with another Canadian singing sensation, The Weeknd, although their relationship barely lasted a year in 2017.
