Jussie Smollett has shared a new song on his Instagram page weeks after being released from jail, pending an appeal of his conviction for lying about a homophobic and racist attack on him in Janaury 2019. Taking to the social media platform on Friday, April 8, the 39-year-old posted a lyrical video of his song — ‘Thank You God’, in which he was heard singing, “Some people searching for fame / Some people chasing that clout / Just remember this ... this ain't that situation / You think I'm stupid enough to kill my reputation?”

He continued: “Just simply to look like a victim / Like it's something fun / Y'all better look at someone else / You got the wrong one,” in the one minute and 40 seconds clip that began with a message that read: “Channeling these thoughts the best way I know how. Love You… - JUSSIE.” In the caption, Smollett also noted that “100% of the profits will be donated to” Rainbow Push Coalition, the Illinois Innocence Project and Secure the Bag Safety by tagging them.

The ‘Empire’ star also sang, “It's like they're hell-bent on not solving the crime / Taking out the elements of race and trans and homophobia that's straight taking lives / But turn around and act like I'm the one that killed the strides. Maybe we stick together / Maybe we read more / Instead of saying that 'It's above me now' / Brother you sure?”

Through the song, Smollett talked about betraying others as he noted, “Let me rephrase that / Cuz the narrative they played / I really over-stand the reason why y'all felt betrayed. They had my own people / Thoughts going off the wall / That's why from L.D. to Don I still got love for y'all / I know we'll meet again / Talk like real men / Instead of sharing shade in rooms and up on CNN.”

However, he ended the song on a positive noted by singing: “Thunder's mad loud / Still I'm pushing through the clouds / All I've ever really wanted to do was make my people proud,” before adding: “Fame is nothing real / It's how you make them feel / Celebrity is for the birds / I ain't no man of steel.”

‘Thank You God’ was dropped after Smollett got out of jail on March 16. He was given five months behind bars after being convicted of five counts of felony disorderly conduct. He had claimed that two White, homophobic Trump supporters attacked him; but eventually it was found that it was two Black men whom ‘The Mighty Ducks’ star had himself hired to stage the crime. He reportedly did so to elevate his celebrity status.

Meanwhile, after the premiere of his song, Smollett was slammed a lot on Twitter with a user tweeting, "Can we just stop reporting on this guy, he is just a waste of space and time, and this kind of shit is just keeping his 15min going... the arrogance of this guy is just crazy." Another one said, "The name of the new Jussie Smollett song hopefully is the 'Fallen Empire'." "Such a disgusting man(?)!" the third one wrote.

A person suggested, "Come on guy! You fucked up! Stand up and take it like a Man!" The second one added: "Keep him from running for the Oval office. He'll never admit defeat...Once you see one Smollett you've seen them all..."

However, his fans showered him with love on Instagram as one of them commented, “POWERFUL 🔥🔥🔥🔥💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💟💐🌺💕.” The second user wrote: “My heart breaks for you and your family. You were so warm when you visited South Africa. Always smiling and waving. Love you ❤️✊🏿stay strong ♥️♥️♥️.” “Beautiful....... Former "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett (light mask) is released from the Cook County Department of Corrections detention center on March 16, 2022 in Chicago, Illinois. Smollett began serving a 150-day sentence on March 10, after being found guilty late last year of lying to police about a hate crime after he reported to police that two masked men physically attacked him, yelling racist and anti-gay remarks near his Chicago home in 2019. Today an appellate court judge ordered him freed while his case is appealed. (Photo by Scott Olson/Getty Images)
