LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Julia Louis-Dreyfus recalls the day she learned the shocking news of her breast cancer diagnosis, a day after she won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in 2017.
At the time, the 'Seinfeld' actress had hit a six-year streak winning the award for the political satire comedy 'Veep' which also won the Outstanding Comedy Series award that night.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus remained positive about her cancer diagnosis
Days after the diagnosis, Louis-Dreyfus took to Twitter to reveal to her fans she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
"One in eight women get breast cancer. Today, I'm the one," she announced.

"The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring family and friends, and fantastic insurance through my union," she added.
"The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so let's fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality," she continued.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus reveals why she laughed after hearing about the diagnosis

In a recent interview with WSJ Magazine which named her 'Entertainment Innovator of the Year', Louis-Dreyfus revealed why she laughed after finding out about the diagnosis and gradually ended in tears.
"I mean, it felt like it was written. It felt like it was a horrible black comedy. And then it sort of morphed into crying hysterically," she said.
"You just simply don’t consider it for yourself, you know, that’s sort of the arrogance of human beings... But of course, at some point, we’re all going to bite it," the 62-year-old actress added.
Louis-Dreyfus, who is also a podcast host, revealed six years later that she is in remission, according to Entertainment Tonight.

"I find myself living more mindfully. It’s not like it’s yakking at me all the time, but there’s more laser focus," she shared.

During the 2023 New Yorker Festival in October, Louis-Dreyfus said, "I'm just so happy to be here, you know. I think I'm enjoying things more."
"I think I work hard now to try not to allow my stress to enter my body if I can do it."

"That’s a difficult nut to crack, you know, for sure, because we're all stressed. But it does have an impact," she continued.
"I'm not saying I got cancer from stress, necessarily, but it's not good for you. And it's also not a happy place to live in," she further said.
"So, I'm just very focused on … trying to enjoy my life as much as possible," the actress shared.
