Actor Kang Ji-hwan arrested for sexual assault, says he doesn't remember anything after night of drinking
Actor Kang Ji-hwan was arrested by police at his residence in Gwangju, South Korea, at 10.50 p.m. KST (9:50 am ET) on suspicion of sexual assault. According to media reports, the actor reportedly returned home with two employees (here on referred to as "A" and "B") from his agency for more drinks following a company dinner.
According to Soompi, the actor entered the room where the two women were speaking later that night and sexually assaulted them. "A" and "B" faced indecent assault. At 9.41 p.m. KST, "A" reached out to her friend in Seoul and texted, "I had some drinks at actor Kang Ji Hwan’s house, and now we’re trapped."
She requested her friend to report it, following which the police arrived at his residence. "A," told police she was sleeping when Ji-hwan assaulted her and this led to his arrest. At the police station, the actor told the officers he did not remember anything after drinking.
He said, "I remember having drinks, but I don’t remember anything after that. When I opened my eyes, I was in the room where [‘A’] was sleeping." Since Ji-hwan was still intoxicated, the police put him in holding and he is expected to be questioned later on July 10. A source was quoted as saying, "We have yet to fully investigate the matter, so other than that Kang Ji Hwan has been arrested for sexual assault, we cannot reveal anything."
The actor is currently with a K-drama titled 'Joseon Survival' which premiered June 8 on TV Chosun. The actor is well-known for his roles in other dramas including 'Coffee House', 'Lie to Me' and 'Monster'.
