Wrestler Jordynne Grace faced the wrath of the Internet after she sent out a tweet mentioning Chris Benoit, the late professional wrestler who murdered his wife Nancy and son Daniel before taking his life in 2007. Grace’s first tweet was in response to a fan’s post that read: “It's always wild listening to wrestlers discuss Chris Benoit in a professional context cause they always be sure to note they aren't excusing what happened before praising his in-ring stuff for 10 minutes. Except New Jack.”

But the 26-year-old wrestler and powerlifter disagreed. She posted: “This is gonna be the coldest take I ever tweet on this app. I already know y’all gonna be mad. I don’t think Benoit could 100% hang with most of the present day best wrestlers. He would not be able to remember matches. Also may he burn in hell, amen 🙏🏼.” The tweet did not go down well with many online.

Slamming Grace, a user tweeted: “Couldn't hang? Oh honey, Benoit was one of the foundations which wrestlers based technician style wrestling on. He'd crush these showmen with raw power and finesse and not have to show off all this flippy-razzle-dazzle because he was a wrestler not a 'sports entertainer'.” Another user said, “Why bring the dude up, knowing its going to invite hate. saying that he was great wrestler and what he did was unforgivable can both be true. And Unfortunately mental illness isnt just depression and suicidal thoughts, its also this.” “Different eras, different wrestlers. Back in Benoits day they didn’t script every move. In todays wrestling it’s about how many flips you can do in a match. So ya Benoit wouldn’t hang today but I don’t think wrestlers today could hang with wrestlers in the 90s,” a third noted.

However, Jordynn did not back down to criticism. In another tweet, the wife of Jonathan Gresham shared, “Proving a point: I said something very lightly critical about him. People jump to defend him. He should NEVER be defended. Dude lost that right when he gave his 7 year old Xanax and strangled him while he was already unconscious.” This could not save her from furious fans of Benoit as one of them remarked, “I love how people always seem to forget this. People act as if he was just said ‘fuck it, I'm gonna kill my family lol’, the man's brain was mush. Am I excusing his actions? No. But for everyone to attack him as if he wasn't suffering from severe brain damage is wild to see.”

One fan claimed: “Imma give my opinion on this I been a fan of Benoit since his wcw days, no way in any shape or form will I defend him for what he did. His in ring skills was top notch and could hang with the best of the best today IF he didnt do what he did.” A tweet pointed out, “You were discussing his wrestling. That can still be discussed, especially in an open forum. Having a differing opinion isn’t defending him. Also, Benoit would have a banger with any of these guys just based off muscle memory. Dude was really, really good in the ring.” “What I don’t get is, how can one not defend his ability to do what he was good at? MULTIPLE things can be true at once… he DEFINITELY shouldn’t be recognized, but anyone who has eyes and was alive to see him wrestle will agree that he can definitely hang today,” another tweet added.
