'I'm a shy person': Johnny Depp says he loves his quiet life at his $15M Somerset mansion
SOMERSET, UK: Johnny Depp is reportedly more into peaceful living now as he enjoys his life at an 850-acre estate in Somerset. The A-lister has also recently shared that he’s “not the great extrovert” and likes to be in his own company instead of being surrounded by people.
Depp owns a mansion worth $15M on a Downton Abbey-style estate in the West Country. The place comes with 12 bedrooms and eight bathrooms and is said to have similarities with the manors mentioned in Jane Austen's novels. The 59-year-old star spoke with Somerset Life, as reported by the Daily Mail, “I just love places with character. British people are cool and will greet you as if you are a neighbor — without going over the top.”

‘I'm quite a shy person’
The ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ actor went on to say, “I like going to places, seeing things, and meeting people — but I'm not the great extrovert that people think. In truth, I'm quite a shy person. That's one of the great things about Britain, and especially Somerset. I can just be me — and that's nice.”
“I can go into shops without being surrounded by people wanting selfies. I don't mind that up to a point, but sometimes it gets a little too crowded,” he added. As per reports, Depp bought the property in 2014 while being engaged to his former wife, Amber Heard. Though the two got divorced in 2017, they were involved in a high-voltage legal drama last year surrounding an article by the actress, calling her ex-husband a domestic violence abuser.
‘He was very relaxed’
Depp’s recent confession regarding his life has come days after he surprised workers of an antique shop, named Hemswell Antique Centres, in Hemswell Cliff in Lincolnshire by dropping in without notice. Robert Miller, the owner of the place, reportedly shared, “He just bought a lot of very quirky items. A desk chair, three guitars, paint sets, easels, a few pictures, posters, and just a whole range of things for decorative items for his own personal property.”
Miller continued, “He chose a vase with a skull on it. Guitars obviously. He was very friendly with, best friends with Jeff Beck, he sat and played a few tunes on this guitar I think just for old times' sake really, and then decided to buy three of the guitars that were there. I think I overheard him talking (about Beck) to one of his colleagues that were with him. It was great because he was his normal self and he was very relaxed and was able to spend time looking at things and playing on the guitars that he wanted to play on. He felt very at home.”
“He came because we do a lot of work with Pinewood Studios and help with props so have contacts. My staff didn't know until the last minute. He really enjoyed his experience here because he was able to be himself. He said he is in hotels a lot of the time because he's constantly bombarded by people. He was very down-to-earth and very chatty. For someone like that to come through our doors was brilliant. He played with and bought a few guitars. I'm sure he will be back,” the shop owner added.
