Johnny Depp had threatened to 'drown' and 'burn' Amber Heard, and then 'f**k her corpse' in texts sent to friend
Johnny Depp allegedly sent a series of violent texts to his actor friend where he said he wanted to drown his ex-wife, Amber Heard, burn her and then have sex with her corpse to make sure that she was dead.
The 'Pirates of the Caribbean' star was present in the courtroom on Wednesday, February 26, when the texts he sent to Paul Bettany were read out loud during a preliminary hearing in his libel suit against British newspaper, the Sun, over a 2018 article that alleged Depp had been abusive to Heard, Page Six reported.
On November 6, 2013, Depp wrote to Bettany saying, “Let’s burn Amber." In a separate text sent on the same day, he wrote: "Let’s drown her before we burn her!!! I will f**k her burnt corpse afterwards to make sure she is dead.”
The Sun's lawyers also submitted a tirade of violent texts that Depp allegedly sent to Bettany in May 2014. “I’m gonna properly stop the booze thing, darling… Drank all night before I picked Amber up to fly to LA, this past Sunday…Ugly, mate. No food for days…powders…half a bottle of whiskey, a thousand red bull and vodkas, pills, 2 bottles of Champers on plane and what do you get..???" the content of some of those texts read.
Some of the others said: “An angry, aggro Injun in a f**kin’ blackout, screaming obscenities and insulting any f–k who got near…I’m done. I am admittedly too f–ked in the head to spray my rage at the one I love…For little reason, as well I’m too old to be that guy But, pills are fine!!!”
The team representing the Sun was able to get their hands on the texts after Depp's legal team shared 70,000 messages from and to the actor with the opposition.
“These texts go to the very heart of the case, they are really very important and set out the claimant’s thinking in respect of a number of different incidents and his recollection,” Adam Wolanski QC, representing the British tabloid, said.
He added that the texts sent by Depp in May 2014, were following an alleged altercation with the 'Aquaman' actress on a plane. During the mentioned instance, Depp was accused of “screaming obscenities” as he slapped Heard in the face, kicked her in the back and threw a boot at her.
He was reportedly physically violent before “passing out” in the flight's washroom. Depp has previously denied being drunk and abusive during the flight.
After texts were read out, Depp’s lawyer Adam Waldman said that in order to promote domestic abuser narrative against their client, the Sun has picked out the most explosive line of texts sent between two friends. “What does the Sun do to keep Amber Heard’s hoax alive? [Wednesday] in court we learned the answer — cherry-picking a fragment of a single frustrated text message to a friend sent out of 500 gigabytes of text and email messages provided," he said.
Waldman added: "Inconveniently for the Sun, here is what Mr. Depp actually said next in his text – that he could never harm Amber: ‘I am admittedly too f–ked in the head to spray my rage at the one I love’.”
The instance of May 2014 was mentioned in Heard's response to the $50 million defamation lawsuit that Depp filed against her in Virginia court. “On the flight, Johnny ordered the flight attendants to give him an oxygen tank, and drank heavily. Johnny’s handlers told me that he was upset that I was filming a movie with a romantic scene with James Franco the day before," the response read.
It went onto depict the alleged assault which ended with Depp passing out just as described by the Sun's legal team.
