Johnny Depp allegedly 'spearheaded' troll campaigns against Amber Heard to 'defame her' and save his career
'Pirates of the Caribbean' star Johnny Depp is now being accused of having allegedly 'spearheaded' a professional trolling campaign against his former wife Amber Heard as an attempt to save his career. The Sun reveals in its report that Depp had allegedly arranged for Heard to get "drowned with online attacks" as their intense domestic abuse court battle went on in London's High Court. Heard claimed that her ex-husband had attempted to "foment a fantasy of online outrage and hatred" in order to discredit her.
Her claims also stated that Depp had likely done this in order to trick many movie studios into believing that he is still relevant. Her new claims made in US legal documents say that Depp and his lawyer Adam Waldman had tried to 'harass and damage' her when the three-week-long trial had taken place in July and carried on into August due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Heard's claims state, "Mr. Depp is attempting to defame Ms. Heard and interfere with her reputation, career, and livelihood through an online smear campaign he has organized and orchestrated. As part of his ongoing smear campaign, Mr. Depp has directed both authentic and inauthentic social media accounts and ‘bots’ to target Ms. Heard’s Twitter account and attempt to interfere with her contracts and business."
"Many of these accounts smear and harass Ms. Heard while simultaneously promoting and praising Mr. Depp’s attorney, Adam Waldman. Mr. Waldman is publicly associated with Russian individuals with the capability to organize such attacks," the claims continue.
The new set of claims and allegations were made with regards to a libel claim Depp has made against his former wife in the US over domestic violence allegations. Heard has claimed that the online troll accounts would frequently tweet messages like 'I love you Waldman!!' which 'further evidences the origin of Mr. Depp’s unlawful campaign'.
She has also alleged that Depp would verbally abuse her over the course of their relationship and would call her names like 'disgusting pig', 'whore c***', and 'inhuman scum-filled sickfish'. The claims say, "Such vile comments from Mr. Depp laid the groundwork for the smear campaign he spearheads today, and reveal Mr. Depp’s true personality, filled with anger, hatred, and violence."
Due to the nasty and intense legal battles between him and his ex, Depp's Hollywood career has seen considerable damage. He was removed from his Captain Jack Sparrow role by Disney while his movie, 'City of Lies', was also put on hold by Miramax. Many of his fans and followers had protested this decision with a petition calling for Amber Heard's removal from 'Aquaman 2' which gathered over 100,000 signatures after recordings of her admitting to physically assaulting Depp surfaced. Fans had also called for Depp to be reinstated as Captain Jack Sparrow in the famous 'Pirates Of The Caribbean' series.
Heard's legal team believes that she was targeted by hundreds of fake Depp fans in an orchestrated "reputation management" crusade on social media platforms such as Twitter. The legal team also said that people and groups linked to Heard were also attacked.
"Anyone publicly associated with Amber gets drowned with online attack, much of which is inauthentic. Not only have we been unbelievably trolled online, so have people we work with. They have been blanketed with emails claiming Amber is an abuser and questioning why anybody would represent her. You could blame it on Depp fans and the life of a celebrity but some of it is being cultivated professionally," the legal team said.
The 'Pirates of the Caribbean' actor had filed a lawsuit against The Sun and its executive editor Dan Wootton for libel, two years after the latter wrote a piece where he claimed that the star hit his ex-wife, Heard, during their tumultuous 18-month marriage. The article in question chastized author JK Rowling for casting Depp in her film 'Fantastic Beasts' even after the 'Aquaman' actress alleged in 2016 that he was a "monster" who had physically abused her multiple times during their marriage, including instances where he choked her and ripped out clumps of her hair.
