Spoiler alert for 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker'

John Boyega is well known for actively engaging with his fans. But every now and again, he goes a step too far, and he apparently can't leave 2019 without riling the fans up one last time. A comment left on a fan's Instagram page about Rey (Daisy Ridley) has riled up both Reylo shippers and those accusing him of sexism and misogyny.

The screenshot that went viral shows Boyega responding to a fan who notes that with Kylo Ren's (Adam Driver) death, Finn and Rey are free to date. Boyega responded with a comment saying, "It's not about who she kisses but who eventually lays the pipe. You are a genius," referring to the moment where, just before his death, Rey and Kylo Ren share a kiss.

The actor has been accused of sexism, misogyny and general grossness, with a Twitter user saying, "The problem isn’t entirely about the joke. The problem is John Boyega’s history of lashing out and aggressive behaviour towards Star Wars fans." It's not the first time Boyega has drawn the fans' ire for comments about 'Rise of Skywalker', having previously implied that co-star Kelly Marie Tran was 'weak' for her handling of internet harassment.

Boyega hasn't backed down from his comments, and has deliberately trolled the 'Reylo' shippers by sharing images of Rey and Kylo Ren throughout the movies in very antagonistic moments, with a single wry comment: "Star Wars romance."

He has made it clear that while he will joke about the characters, any ships or 'Star Wars' theories have nothing to do with real life. Responding to a fan who asked if he still had a crush on Daisy Ridley, he responded, 'Star Wars is a movie not a documentary.'

'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' is in cinemas now.
