AUSTIN TEXAS: According to UFC commentator Joe Rogan, Khamzat Chimaev might have been on the verge of earning a title shot if it weren't for a significant mistake.

On a recent edition of Rogan's podcast, he shared his thoughts on Chimaev's weight problems during his fight with Nate Diaz and delved deeper into his overall perspective on Chimaev's career.

Khamzat Chimaev is a rising star in the world of mixed martial arts and has previously competed in both the welterweight and middleweight divisions.

His next bout is scheduled to take place in the 185-pound category, where he will face off against Paulo Costa in a highly anticipated showdown at UFC 294. This exciting matchup is set to happen in Abu Dhabi on October 21.

Widespread speculation suggests that a victory over Paulo Costa, also known as Borrachinha, could potentially catapult Khamzat Chimaev into contention for a shot at the UFC title.

Joe Rogan claims on Khamzat Chimaev

Despite Khamzat Chimaev's promising position in the UFC, Joe Rogan argues that Chimaev, also known as Borz, could have achieved an even more advantageous status if not for the incident at UFC 279, as reported by Fannation.

To provide some context, Khamzat Chimaev was originally scheduled to face Nate Diaz on that specific card. However, due to a weight miss of over seven pounds, the plans had to be rearranged, and Kevin Holland stepped in as Chimaev's new opponent.

Consequently, Nate Diaz went on to face Tony Ferguson, while Khamzat Chimaev ended up squaring off against Kevin Holland.

During a recent podcast episode, Joe Rogan expressed his belief that this weight mishap ultimately delayed Khamzat Chimaev's potential opportunity to vie for a UFC championship.

"Khamzat really f*****d up when he didn't make weight against Nate Diaz, because if he made weight against Nate Diaz and has a great showing against Nate Diaz, that guy's got the next title shot," Rogan said. "He's a f*****g star, he's just got that thing." Rogan claimed.
