Jennifer Lopez's former boyfriend of 10  years, David Cruz, died of heart disease at the age of 51 on Saturday, revealed the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner. Jennifer and Cruz had been together for almost a decade and had started dating when they were in high school.

They dated through the mid-1990s before she starred in 'Selena'. Cruz had attended many Hollywood events with Jennifer, which included the premiere of 'Money Train' in November 1995. During the filming of the movie, Cruz was described as a movie assistant, PEOPLE reports.

Cruz has been survived by his longterm partner Isa who said Cruz was 'kind and loving'. The statement read, "He never held on to anything and was always very open. He was a devoted father, he helped raise his step-son who is now in the Marines. He loved the Yankees and Knicks."

"He loved going to the theatre with me. My favorite moment was family date night because it wasn’t just special for me but for the kids as well. He always made sure to end things with an ‘I love you'," the statement continued.

Jennifer is currently engaged to former MLB star Alex Rodriguez and has not yet spoken out about the death of her ex-boyfriend. Jennifer also has two twin children Emme Maribel and Max David whom she shares with her ex-husband, Marc Anthony.

Jennifer has also romantically been linked to Sean Combs aka Diddy between 1999 and 2001. The duo got together when they were working on her album, 'On the 6'. The singer also dated Ben Affleck for around two years since 2002. The couple even got engaged but realized that it just was not meant to be.

She has also been linked to the likes of Beau “Casper” Smart whom she was with for around five years in an on-and-off relationship. JLo also dated rapper Drake for a year between 2016 and 2017.

In a separate development, Jennifer took to her Instagram handle recently to honor the 23rd anniversary of the 1997 biopic 'Selena' where she played the role of Tejano music star Selena Quintanilla-Perez. The movie 'Selena' totally changed Jennifer's life.

Jennifer had shared a three-minute-long video that featured some stills from the film itself as well as some footage of Quintanilla-Perez before her death. It also features some clips of Jennifer discussing the singer and her life while giving interviews.

She had captioned the video clip, "Join me today in #CelebratingSelena. I can’t believe it’s been 23 years since this incredible movie came out and 25 years since her passing. Selena was such an inspiration to me and I was so lucky to be chosen to play her."

"As an artist, this movie truly was an experience I’m going to remember for the rest of my life. Please share your memories of Selena and the movie with me below," she continued. Singer Quintanilla-Perez was killed in a motel in her own hometown of Corpus Christi in Texas in 1995. She was only 23 at the time of her murder.
