Jay Z 'not happy' with Colin Kaepernick after beleagured football star turned NFL workout into a 'publicity stunt'
Rapper Jay-Z is reportedly very displeased about how free-agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick handled his workout in front of NFL scouts over the weekend. The rapper had pulled a lot of strings in order to arrange the special practice to help him get back into the game.
Out of the 25 teams that had been scheduled to watch Kaepernick's workout, only eight showed up as Kaepernick, 32, decided to switch venues at the last minute as the NFL refused to open the practice to the media. Instead of keeping with NFL's restrictions, Kaepernick organized his own practice at Charles R. Drew High School in Riverdale and changed the location from the original Atlanta Falcons' facility in Flowery Branch.
He also welcomed all NFL representatives and the press in the name of 'transparency'. According to Complex, a source shared that Jay-Z was quite disappointed with Kaepernick's actions and how he had "turned a legitimate workout into a publicity stunt". As reported by TMZ, Jay-Z had believed that the NFL was genuine in giving Kaepernick a chance to showcase his skills and be scouted back into a league.
The 49-year-old rapper had organized the workouts given his new partnership with the NFL. According to the Big Lead, Jay-Z had been 'pressuring' the NFL commissioner Roger Goddell 'to do the right thing and have this workout for Colin Kaepernick'. Given the last-minute venue change, only eight out of the 25 teams showed up to attend the workout.
The representatives of the Philadelphia Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs, New York Jets, Buffalo Bills, Washington Redskins, the San Francisco 49ers, Detroit Lions and the Tennessee Titans were present for the 40-minute workout. Kaepernick was also seen warmly greeting the 200 plus fans who had showed up.
After the practice, Kaepernick shared with the reporters that he is still waiting for the 32 NFL teams to 'stop running'. "I've been ready for three years. I've been denied for three years. We all know why I came out here. [I] showed it today in front of everybody. We have nothing to hide. So we're waiting for the 32 owners, 32 teams, Roger Goodell, all of them stop running. Stop running from the truth. Stop running from the people".
