What were Jason Weaver's first roles?

Jason Weaver, who is currently seen playing Shaad Marshall in ‘The Chi,’ is an American actor and singer. His professional career kick-started in the 90s with roles in movies and television shows like ‘The Kid Who Loved Christmas’, ‘Brewster Place’, ‘The Long Walk Home’ and ‘The Jacksons: An American Dream.’

He created a niche for himself as a reliable actor with his performances in both films and television series like ‘Sister, Sister’, ‘Freedom Song’, ‘Drumline’, ‘The Ladykillers’, ‘ATL’, ‘Jada’, ‘Love for Sale’, ‘Lottery Ticket’, ‘The LeBrons’, ‘He’s Mine Not Yours’ and ‘Dysfunctional Friends.’ However, it's his roles on ‘Thea’ and ‘Smart Guy’ that gave him global recognition. He is also known for providing the singing voice of Simba in Disney’s ‘The Lion King.’

What is Jason Weaver's net worth?

According to Trending Buzz, he has a salary of $2 million a year and a net worth of $4 million as of 2022. As mentioned earlier, he is noted for singing young Simba’s songs in Disney’s iconic ‘The Lion King’. These songs are now considered to be timeless classics and include ‘Hakuna Matata’ and ‘I Just Can’t Wait to be King.’

In an old interview with Vlad TV, Jason opened up about how, while he was still a teenager, Disney had offered him $2 million for singing the songs. While he was flattered, his mother was apparently less impressed by the amount. He said, “That amount of money, to the ordinary middle-class family in the ’90s, I mean, that’s something. But without hesitation, my mother said, Wait a minute.”

Weaver also added his mother was witty and sharp enough to notice that Disney had been constantly re-releasing some of its classics. Declining that huge offer, she ended up renegotiating her son's salary and he received $100,000 upfront along with a share of royalties.

Jason also shared how, over the years, the deal has paid off fruitfully thanks to the enormous amounts receives in royalties. He also shared, “If she hadn't done that, that would've been one of the biggest mistakes of my career.”

The decision turned out to be crucial in Jason’s life. ‘The Lion King’ went on to become one of Disney’s most successful films of all time and essentially set himself for life.
