Karlie Kloss campaigns for Joe Biden: Jared Kushner's supermodel sister-in-law set to appear at STEAM event
Supermodel Karlie Kloss who is married to Jared Kushner's brother will be participating in a campaign event for Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden on Thursday, September 3. The event will be focusing on Biden's agenda on women working in science, technology, engineering, art and math fields that are also known as STEAM. Kloss will also be accompanied by Girls Who Code founder Reshma Saujani as well as other speakers.
A source close to Kloss spoke to PEOPLE, "For those who know Karlie, this event makes a lot of sense. She cares deeply about the future of women in STEAM and has always supported the candidates who stand for the issues she's passionate about," the insider continued.
The Biden campaign had said in a statement that the event "will highlight the important work that is happening with women in STEAM." Kloss had launched Kode with Klossy in 2015 as a way to empower and inspire young women to become involved in tech. The organization conducts learning experiences in order to help girls pursue their passions. It is a very well known program and is a free two-week boot camp.
While speaking to PEOPLE last year, Kloss had shared, "Kode With Klossy is about igniting the initial spark in young women to want to explore the world of technology, so applicants that show creativity, passion and curiosity around tech always stand out to me."
Even though Kloss is linked to POTUS Donald Trump, she identifies as a liberal along with her husband Joshua Kushner, a venture capitalist and entrepreneur. Joshua and Kloss had tied the knot in 2018. Joshua's older brother Jared Kushner is POTUS Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump's husband.
Both Jared and Ivanka are senior White House aides. Kloss had spoken to British Vogue last year and made it clear that she does not mix politics and family. "I choose to focus on the values that I share with my husband, and those are the same liberal values that I was raised with, and that have guided me throughout my life," she had said.
Joshua had echoed the same sentiments and said something similar to Forbes in 2017. Josh said, "It is no secret that liberal values have guided my life and that I have supported political leaders that share similar values." He added that "It’s important to be open-minded and learn from differing opinions."
Kloss had also spoken about her relationship with Joshua, earlier this year and said that she "really followed my heart on choosing to be with the person that I love, despite any complications that came with it. You know, I knew for me, it was worth it to fight for that."
For the 2016 election, Kloss had revealed that she had voted for Hillary Clinton and that Josh had not voted for Trump. Earlier this year she had added, "I'm sure I'm not the only person in this country who does not necessarily agree with their family on politics. I voted as a Democrat in 2016 and I plan to do the same in 2020."
