British boxer Jamie McDonnell sparked outrage on social media after he posted a series of beaming selfies with his girlfriend during a visit to Auschwitz. The former world champion is believed to be on a Valentine's Day special trip with Georgiia Elise, during which the couple made a visit to Auschwitz. However, their "tone-deaf" selfies from the infamous concentration camp were perceived to be in poor taste by netizens, eventually prompting him to delete the photos. 

McDonnell originally shared the photos on Twitter with the caption, "Lovely day trip today round Auschwitz, opens your eyes a lot." In one of the photos, a visitor could be seen crying while the pair posed with smiles at the camera. The tweet sparked controversy soon after it was posted as Twitter users reminded McDonnell that Auschwitz was a "concentration camp and not Disneyland". Initially, McDonnell defended himself by labeling his critics as "keyboard warriors", but in the end, he was compelled to take down the insensitive post.

Who is Jamie McDonnell's girlfriend Georgiia Elise?

Jamie McDonnell, who reigned as a two-time bantamweight world champion between 2005 and 2019, was previously married to Hollie McDonnell. It is believed that their marriage ended in separation, though the timeline of their relationship is not clear.

McDonnell, 35, is presently dating 25-year-old Georgiia Elise. A week ago, he wished her on her 25th birthday with a series of couple photos. "Happy 25th birthday 🥳 to my other half hope you have the best day ❤️ @georgiiaelise," he tweeted. According to Elise's Twitter bio, she works as a staff nurse in Sheffield, UK. 

While Elise chooses to keep her social media profiles private, McDonnell often shares romantic photos of date nights and getaways with his lady love. It is believed that the pair's latest visit to Auschwitz was part of a romantic trip, but did not sit well with the boxer's fans. 

"Boxer Jamie McDonnell and girlfriend went to Auschwitz for Valentines weekend. In this completely tone-deaf photo, on the train tracks that brought 960K Jews, 434K from Hungary in less than 60 days, to their deaths. All smiles, with a person hunched over crying, in the background," a Twitter user noted, sharing the now-deleted photo by McDonnell. 

Another user shared screenshots of replies from McDonnell where he defended himself, calling Auschwitz a "tourist place". "OK, sorry for a second tweet on this, but I've just seen boxer Jamie McDonnell's replies to ppl who told him to take down his smiling concentration camp selfies.
Who in the world thinks of Auschwitz as just "a tourist place"? What sickening human beings these two are," the user noted.

"Who goes to Auschwitz and smiles? Seriously. Jamie McDonnell is a moron. Do you know what happened there? It's not goddamn Disneyworld. Save the selfies for some other time," a third user lambasted the boxer.
