There's a new campaign going around on social media that aims to convince people to wear masks in order to protect those around them from the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. The "Masking For a Friend" campaign, started by the Pandemic Action Network (PAN), has gained the support of a number of celebrities and iconic actor Jamie Lee Curtis is the latest to join the bandwagon.

Curtis showed her support for the campaign with an Instagram post captioned, "Which part of the science and COMMON SENSE do you not understand? Masking for a friend! #maskingforafriend." The post has already started attracting comments from people deriding those who are taking a stance against the science behind wearing masks.

"I live in Georgia, where the governor is suing the Atlanta mayor for mandating that residents wear masks while out in public. It's insane. Immature and selfish," one Instagram user commented.

Another user commented, "YASSSSSS!!!!!! I was just asking my mom the same question! Why don’t people get that???"

Over on Twitter, the campaign is being used by people to try and educate others on the need to wear a mask. And there are some users who are trying to point out the ridiculousness of refusing to comply with these guidelines in a crisis situation like the one we find ourselves in now.

"Name one time in the history of masks that someone has died or been injured by wearing one. #maskingforafriend," one Twitter user wrote.

"#ActiveAdvice-By accepting and not neglecting the science there is potential to reduce the spread if more people would show they care by making an effort to wear to protect self and the public’s health. #maskingforafriend #safespaceforall #doingmypart #wenotme #fuelsofengagement," another user tweeted.

There's also a whole bunch of people who are using the campaign to make jokes about the random reasons why people are refusing to wear a mask, like this Twitter user who wrote, "I was told all this sanitizing and mask-wearing is 'SOFTENING US UP FOR THE NEW WORLD ORDER!' (His shout, not mine.) Made me think I should marinade something for supper, got hungry. #maskingforafriend"

And of course, this campaign is helping a lot of people come around to the idea of wearing masks to protect others and themselves and there's plenty of support for them. One Twitter user put up a gif that reads "Welcome to the team!" and wrote in the caption, "When you see that the same people a few months ago who were complaining about masks and their rights are finally seeing the light #maskingforafriend."
