James Brolin reveals he had to propose to Barbra Streisand thrice before she finally accepted

MALIBU, CALIFORNIA: During a recent interview, actor James Brolin, who is married to the iconic singer Barbra Streisand, shared that he had to propose three times before she agreed to marry him.
During their conversation with Gayle King on CBS Mornings, the couple discussed their journey from how they first got together to their enduring marriage of over 25 years.
Barbra Streisand likes to try out her lovers
As King read out the words Brolin had penned to Streisand on the occasion of their 25th marriage anniversary, she was shocked to know that the actor probably had to kneel on one knee thrice for the singer.
"'Marrying you was just the best thing I've ever done. I asked you three times, and each time you would --' You asked her three times?" King asked in astonishment.
"She wasn't sure about this idea," Brolin responded.
When Streisand was pressed to explain her reasons, she defended herself by saying, "'Cause I -- I don't know -- I have to try them out. For at least two years."
James Brolin remained celibate for 3 years
Brolin then went on to share how he had not been with another partner for the years that he waited for Streisand.
"And I had been literally, it's a wild word but, I had been celibate for three years saying, 'Who needs that?'" the actor said.
Incredulous, Streisand exclaimed, "You're not supposed to tell that!" as she playfully hit her husband's knee.
Brolin elaborated, "I had not had any interest in getting involved in a lousy situation."
Streisand then added, reflecting on Brolin's previous marriages, "He had two previous marriages, while I had only been married once."
Brolin was married to Jan Smithers until their separation in 1995, and prior to that, he was in a relationship with Jane Cameron Agee for nearly two decades.
The CBS host playfully teased the couple as she inquired, "After three years, that must have been a hell of a night then."
"Wild!" Brolin joked along as the couple shared a laugh.
Streisand and Brolin tied the knot in 1998. Before that, the Broadway singer had a relationship with actor Elliott Gould for approximately 8 years, and she had various other romantic partners before meeting her second husband.
King proceeded to share the excerpt written by Brolin, which read, "Home is not a place; home is a person. You know someone is right for you if you love to be with them all the time. And when I go, when I finally go, I will love you then."
