Actor and activist Jameela Jamil confused fans a little on Monday, September 21. When a follower wrote on her Instagram post, “Your skin is so perfect,” the 34-year-old ‘The Good Place’ actor wrote a long reply. Jamil wrote, “My skin is currently clear because: A) privileged people have more access to good quality nutrition and also our lives are significantly less stressful than the lives of those with less privilege. I also get to sleep more because of this. All these things keep my hormones in balance and I’m able to address food intolerances easily.”

She further said, “B) I believe that trans rights are human rights. C) I exfoliate twice a week.”

On Twitter, many users shared screenshots of this exchange. A Twitter user shared the image with the comment, “could she be more annoying,” to which Jamil wrote back, “Go to therapy. It will help. I also used to be miserable, mistrusting, little troll, just like you. It gets better.”

She also quoted the Twitter user and wrote, “They’d prefer, ‘thanks! And if you buy my new diet tea, you could look EXACTLY the same.’ Privilege exists in many forms, wealth, physical ability, race, beauty, size, etc.. false Comparison culture has lead us to an all-time high of self-harm/eating disorders/suicide in kids.”

She added, “As a kid, I had acne, crooked teeth, and was much bigger than actresses in my magazines. I maybe wouldn’t have spent my whole teens hating myself if they’d just been honest about the amount of privilege that plays into these things. So I’m gonna keep calling it out now I know!”

She also said in a separate tweet, “I would like to make it extremely clear that I don’t give a flying f**k about what people *think* my intentions are. We do not as a society, have a great track record of trusting women’s intentions and have been set up to not trust women in general since the story of Eden.”

Social media seemed divided on Jamil’s responses, both on Instagram and Twitter. One Twitter user wrote, “you received criticism about how you brought up your privilege and trans rights. Maybe instead of freaking the f**k out on people who are trying to point out that this method comes off as performative for most, maybe just listen and learn from it as your pinned tweet says…” Another Twitter user said, “love to condescend about how rich and perfect my life is and then about how everyone who doesn’t live that life is a miserable troll. I’m a good person! I said trans rights!”

Another Twitter user said, “No one is saying they’d rather have you offer diet tea oh my f***ing god. You could have just said THANKS!!! Also as a trans person! I don’t need you using your support of me and my livelihood as a reason your skin is clear. F**k off.”

On Sunday, at the 72nd edition of the coveted Emmy awards’ virtual ceremony, Jamil made a statement by choosing to be comfy. She posted a photo on her Instagram hinting that she is braless in her attire for the awards. She captioned the photo as, "No bra? No heels? NO PROBLEM. Wearing PJ’s to the 72nd Emmy awards (from my house) is my kind of vibes. Excited to see if we win any of the 7 awards we have been nominated for! I still did my make up and wore a sequin dressing gown, because... It’s what Tahani would have wanted. And this is her day, not mine."

She was seen in white JJwinks loungewear under a Markarian NYC ombre sequin coat from the brand’s spring/summer 2019 collection. In her post, she is seen wearing no footwear.
