British music entrepreneur and SB.TV founder Jamal Edwards died tragically on Sunday, February 20, at the age of 31 years. The late music mogul was credited for launching the careers of artists like Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, Skepta, and Jessie J among others. Edwards was also honored with an MBE in 2014 for his contribution to music. His untimely death was mourned by celebrities across the world. 

Little known to many, Jamal Edwards was actually the son of iconic British singer Brenda Edwards. The 52-year-old X-Factor finalist is still reeling from the shock of her beloved son's death and is yet to issue a public statement. As evident from their social media posts, the mother-son duo was very close to each other and celebrated each other's achievements with much pride.

Who are Jamal Edwards' parents?

Jamal Edwards was the eldest son of Brenda Edwards, though the identity of her biological father is not known. In fact, the late record producer preferred to maintain privacy about her real dad. However, he shared a close bond with his stepfather Patrick Edwards, who married Brenda in 1996. 

Three months before his death, Jamal celebrated his mother's cancer victory as he posted, "I'm so unbelievably proud of my mum @brendaedwardsglobal. This year marks 5 years of her being completely cancer-free. After being diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer which was a difficult time for all of us she is now out here doing her thing raising awareness by taking part in this year's Strictly: The Real Full Monty...."

Brenda Edwards herself proudly shared her son's accomplishments and posted photos with him quite often on her own Instagram account. Last year, she shared a family photo with her son Jamal and daughter Tanisha, noting, "Verified
I am so proud to have two beautiful children @jamaledwards and @tanisha.arts_ are my world, everything I do I do for them. According to The BBC, Jamal breathed his last on Sunday, February 20, However, the cause behind his death is yet to be revealed. It was reported that he had attended the BRIT Awards in the first week of February and performed as a DJ at a gig in north London on Saturday, Feb 19, evening. No further details have been released about his death. Jamal became an ambassador for the Prince's Trust, a youth charity run by the Prince of Wales which helps young people set up their own companies.

Edwards, who helped push the frontiers of Grime music, also ran a YouTube channel that amassed more than a million followers. He was born in Luton in 1990 but was raised in Acton, west London. He began SBTV as a YouTube channel in 2006. He later featured the early work of artists like Ed Sheeran, Dave, Jessie J, Rita Ora, Bugzy Malone, Krept & Konan, and Stormzy among others serving as a perfect launching pad for them. He shared a close friendship with Ed Sheeran beyond their musical collaborations and called him his 'life brother'.
