Ivanka Trump stuns in black Givenchy dress at State of the Union as Dem congresswomen don 'suffragette white'
First daughter Ivanka Trump was seen sporting a $2,240 black dress from Givenchy as she joined her family for President Donald Trump's State of the Union address. The senior adviser to Trump wore a button-trimmed satin-trimmed wool-crepe midi dress while joining her husband Jared Kushner in the first lady's box that is located above the House Chamber.
She matched the outfit with a pair of bright red heels that was a similar shade to her dress's collar.
This is the second year in a row that she has worn black in contrast to the 'suffragette white' that is worn by Democratic Congresswomen. Last year in 2019, Ivanka was seen in a sleek all-black outfit that was a skirt-suit with a shiny belt at the waist.
In 2018, she had opted to wear a short-sleeved, black and red plaid dress from Oscar de la Renta. Over two SOTU addresses, Ivanka's color scheme has remained the same though her hairstyle has seen some changes.
For 2020, she changed her hairdo to a straight bob with a middle parting as opposed to the Hollywood curls she had worn in 2019.
The eldest of Trump's children - Eric and Lara Trump, Donald Trump Jr. and Kimberly Guilfoyle, and Tiffany Trump and her boyfriend Michael Boulos were also seen in the first lady's box. The first lady, on the other hand, was seen in a custom made black Dolce&Gabanna suit.
Last year, Melania was seen in a black military-style coat that she had worn for the president's speech. Her 2018 outfit had caused some controversy as she was seen in a white suit. Many wondered if she was paying a tribute to the suffragettes for which white has become a symbol. They also wondered if she was mimicking Hillary Clinton who had worn pantsuits while campaigning against Trump.
