'It's finally coming through': Fans excited as Will Smith confirms 'I Am Legend 2' with Michael B Jordan is in final stages of scripting

Speaking at the Red Sea International Film Festival, Will Smith provided key updates about 'I Am Legend 2,' which will also star Michael B Jordan

JEDDAH, SAUDI ARABIA: Will Smith recently disclosed key details about a sequel to his 2007 science fiction film 'I Am Legend'. 

According to Screen Daily, during a session at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the Oscar-winning actor revealed that he will be collaborating with Michael B Jordan on the script, and the two have discussed the project.

Smith reportedly said, "I have a call with Michael B Jordan tomorrow. The script just came in…I’m probably giving away too much information." He also revealed that the sequel will follow the alternative ending on the DVD version of the original 2007 movie, where his character Robert Neville survives.

"We’re going with the mythology of the DVD version where my character lived," revealed the 'Bad Boys' actor, adding, "I can’t tell you any more but Michael B Jordan is in and we’re doing it." 

'I Am Legend 2' has been 16 years in the making

'I Am Legend' directed by Francis Lawrence and released by Warner Bros in late 2007, was a massive success, grossing $585m worldwide, including $256m in North America.

In the spring of 2022, the sequel was first announced, with Akiva Goldsman, writer and producer of the first film, returning in the upcoming project.

During an hour-long talk at the Red Sea International Film Festival, Smith, the protagonist of the movie, spoke about his love for Saudi Arabia and expressed his desire to make a film there.

The audience was excited and one member even shouted "A movie with Denzel Washington!" before Smith could answer.

Soon, the actor laughed and responded, "Yes, a movie with Denzel Washington in Saudi!" to cheers from the packed house at the Vox Cinemas venue.

Smith arrived in Jeddah a couple of days before the festival's opening on Thursday, November 30. 

He attended the opening ceremony of the world premiere of the Saudi fantasy feature, ‘HWJN’, and was surrounded by fans both outside and inside the Ritz-Carlton venue.

Seeing Smith having made amends, speaking with the media, and being out and about after the Slapgate incident at the 2022 Oscars is a refreshing sight indeed for his fans and followers.

Internet can’t keep calm as Will Smith and Michael B Jordan are set to share screen in 'I Am Legend 2'

Soon after the bombshell announcement about 'I Am Legend 2', fans couldn't help but show their excitement over Will Smith and Michael B Jordan starring together in the film. 

One wrote, "This took a long while but I'm happy it's finally coming through," with another saying, "I AM LEGEND is certainly up there as one of his best performances in a movie. A part 2 would be epic though."

"I loved that first movie, and honestly... Will needs a hit... That isn't Chris Rock's face," quipped a fan. 

A person noted, "The star power of these two together is instant cash. All they need to do is up the ante in terms of spectacle/horror and you got the recipe for a crowd pleaser."

Someone else remembered the German Shepherd Samantha and wrote, "I need the dog to come back though."

One more expressed, "Also curious to see if they will explain how he made it out alive? Surely right?" while another fan said, "Excited to see what they make of it."

A person declared, "o this film will be number 1."
