HAMPTONS, NEW YORK: Gwyneth Paltrow's representative has saved her from the Internet's wrath after the actress's comment on her Best Actress Oscar landed her hot water.

The 'Shakespeare in Love' actress was previously slammed for saying she used her Oscar Award as a doorstop.

Paltrow's representative clarified the claims, saying, "Of course, it's a joke," while mentioning her previous interview with the New York Times.

The doorstop joke controversy began after a recent video of Vogue's "73 Questions" segment. The Academy Award is seen leaning against a wooden door in the segment shot in her Hamptons home.

The Vogue interviewed the actress as part of the 15th anniversary of Paltrow's wellness and lifestyle company Goop.

Where does Gwyneth Paltrow keep her Oscar statuette?

Paltrow won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1999 for her role as Viola de Lesseps in 'Shakespeare in Love'.

In her interview with the New York Times, published on September 30, she mentioned that her Oscar statuette is kept at her home in Amagansett, New York.

She has a bittersweet relationship with her Oscar Award. In the Vogue segment, the 'Avengers' star revealed how the big triumph pushed her into an identity crisis.

Though she admits the victory was a fantastic experience, she felt the following weeks were very disorienting and unhealthy.

Gwyneth Paltrow slammed for her joke

Paltrow's remarks made the headlines of several entertainment media outlets, giving her a hard time. Social media users slammed Paltrow over her joke, which was deemed disrespectful, while others called her undeserving of the award.

A user tagged The Academy and tweeted, "First of all, everybody knows that she didn't deserve the award. That belonged to Fernanda Montenegro."

Another noted that the award rightfully belongs to Cate Blanchett for her role in 'Elizabeth', writing, "If you don't want it give it back to Cate Blanchett where it belongs."

"Meryl would never and she has 3!" another said, referring to legendary actress Meryl Streep.

Another user shared a screenshot from the 1999 Best Actress Academy Award announcement showing the reactions of the five nominees. The tweet highlighted Montenegro's expression.
