LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Scarlett Johansson has addressed rumors of Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow returning to the MCU despite the beloved character's death during 'Avengers: Endgame.'

While appearing on the 'Today' show on Monday, November 13, to promote her skincare line The Outset, the 38-year-old actress spoke on the speculation that she might return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as her superhero character.

"I think it was the end, right? ... She passed," Johansson told Savannah Guthrie, referencing the scene in 'Avengers: Endgame' when Natasha Romanoff sacrifices herself to obtain the Soul Stone from Thanos, sparing the life of Jeremy Renner's Clint Barton/Hawkeye.

"It would be a miracle. It would be a real Marvel miracle. It would be a marvel. But who knows?" the actress said in her chat with Guthrie, 51, according to People.

Is Scarlett Johansson approached by Marvel Studios to reprise her role?

Johansson was similarly unsure while chatting with a wider group of co-anchors on the show when Al Roker asked about the gossip, citing the Marvel "multiverse" as a potential flaw.

"Is it like, a vampire version of the character? 'Cause I'm here for that. Or like a zombie version, maybe?" she said, avoiding answering directly to Roker after he asked whether she'd been approached by Marvel Studios to reprise her role.

Scarlett Johansson first played the beloved character in 2010

Johansson first played Black Widow in 2010's 'Iron Man 2' and went on to appear as the character in several follow-up films including 'The Avengers' (2012) and 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' (2014).

Although the character met her fate in 2019's 'Avengers: Endgame', she made a leading appearance once again in 2021's 'Black Widow' standalone film, which takes place after the events of 'Captain America: Civil War' (2016).

Johansson told Fatherly that she "has no plans to return as" the assassin-turned-Avenger, who seemingly takes her final bow in Black Widow, back in 2021.

"I feel really satisfied with this film," she said, adding "It feels like a great way to go out for this chapter of my Marvel identity."

However, much to the delight of fans, that does not mean that we saw the last of the two-time Academy Award nominee around the MCU. "I would love to be able to continue to collaborate with Marvel in other ways because I think there's just an incredible wealth of stories there," she said, adding "Re-imagining this genre is something that I find very interesting."
