'I am not gay': Tyler James Williams shuts down rumors about his sexuality, fans say 'leave him alone'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Tyler James Williams has taken the internet by storm, for all the right reasons. As pride month begins, Williams has addressed the dangers of assuming one’s sexuality, in addition to how those inadvertently affect queer folks. This ‘Abbott Elementary’ star has used his social media to shut down all rumors at once, and his fans have rushed to support him during this time.

Williams has set a great example for everyone around the world and talked about his feelings about dangerous stereotypes in the most articulate manner ever. Williams’ Instagram story was two slides long, and while it could have looked like a rant to some, it was simply a call for people to stop with the stereotypes, for his sake, and others. Lucky for Williams, his fans have served as a big support system during this time.

'I feel like it as a conversation is bigger than me'

In a two-slide, and rather emotional Instagram story, Williams has addressed his fans, well-wishers, and those who have added to the rumor mill surrounding his sexuality. Williams begins his post by saying, “Usually I wouldn’t address stuff like this but I feel like it as a conversation is bigger than me, I am not gay; but I think the culture of trying to “find” some kind of hidden trait or behavior that a closeted person “let slip” is very dangerous.” Williams goes on to shift the topic from himself and moves on to the anxiety and fear that queer and queer-questioning folks live in because of these stereotypes.

Williams uses his platform in the most positive and educational way possible as he writes, “What may seem like harmless fun and conversation may actually be sending a dangerous message to those struggling with real issues.” Williams has really come through for his people, and his fans can’t stop appreciating him for it, and rightfully so.

‘Hit so many great points’

Fans have taken to Twitter to respond to and talk about Williams’ Instagram story, which struck up quite a conversation. One fan reposts the story and writes, “this is so important tyler james williams i love you.” There’s nothing but love pouring in for Williams as another fan chimes in, “as if i need more reasons to love tyler james williams! a king!”  Fans have also thanked Williams for understanding them and talking about their feelings as one tweet reads, “Tyler James Williams encapsulating my feelings. Love you all! “Happy Pride to all of my queer and questioning brothers, sisters, and individuals.”

Of course, some fans have dived into certain points of the post that really hit the note, and one fan tweeted, “I love how tyler james Williams's response to gay rumors hit so many great points on how dangerous is it to try and out possibly closeted people and how stifling it is to assert straight men can only act a certain way all while not being offended or overly defensive.” Fans continue to shower Williams with love and support as one writes, “I love Tyler James Williams so much. A grown ass man. We need more Black men like him around.” One fan sums up what everyone on the internet is feeling after reading William’s Instagram story as they write, and my love for tyler james williams continue to grow. love him.” One fan added, "now leave him alone!!!!"
