LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Selena Gomez has finally broke the silence and addressed the speculations regarding her ex, The Weeknd. The pop star released her new song, 'Single Soon' last Friday, August 25, and soon her fans started to dig deep into her relationship history, with many claiming that the 'Blinding Lights' singer may have inspired the track's lyrics. 

However, Gomez who reportedly hasn’t dated anyone publicly since 2018, debunked all those rumors. “Couldn’t be more false,” she commented on Hollywood Life’s Instagram post promoting their story on the fan theory on Sunday, August 27, E! Online reports. 

Gomez mentioned 'The Weeknd' in her song 

The 'Calm Down' singer sings about going through a relationship throughout the tune and even mentions 'the weekend'. “Should I do it on the phone? / Should I leave a little note in the pocket of his coat? (Yeah) / Maybe I’ll just disappear / I don’t wanna see a tear / And the weekend’s almost here,” the song goes. 

Were Gomez and The Weeknd in relationship?

The 31-year-old singer and The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, dated each other for 10 months, from January to October in 2017. Later, Gomez went back together with then on-off ex Justin Bieber for a couple of months. 

According to Page Six, a source told at the time of the separation that the 'Save Your Tears' singer, 33 was focusing on his career instead of his dating life. “Everyone wants love, but his focus is the business", the insider said. “He’s building a legacy. He’s young and successful with money and can have any girl he wants. Their relationship kind of came out of nowhere.”

A second source added, “He’s a supreme player. He hits the scene hard. [Selena’s] more subtle with it.” The singer was later rumored to have been in a relationship with Angelina Jolie, DJ Chantel Jeffries and influencer Simi Khadra.

Is Selena Gomez dating anyone now?

The “Wizards of Waverly Place” star was recently pictured getting flirty with Italian film producer Andrea Iervolino last summer. But she never spoke publicly about whether the duo dated each other or not. Gomez was also rumored to be dating One Direction alum Zayn Malik earlier this year, before going out with The Chainsmokers DJ Drew Taggart.

However, she later shed light on her relationship status in a hilarious TikTok video in June. “I’m single!” Gomez screamed while sitting on the sidelines of a soccer match. “I’m just a little high maintenance, but I’ll love you so much.”
