'Best Medicine' filming location revealed as Fox comedy lands special advance premiere
Fox is all set to entertain its viewers with an official remake of the British series 'Doc Martin', titled 'Best Medicine.' The trailer of the comedy series offers a glimpse into the world of the show, with Dr. Martin Best (Josh Charles) taking center stage. The 'Best Medicine' trailer also reveals that the series is set in the charming East Coast fishing village of Port Wenn, leaving many fans wondering if the town actually exists in real life.
Although Best Medicine is set in the small town of Port Wenn, Maine, the town is fictional, and the series was actually filmed in Cornwall, New York. During a set visit with Us Weekly, Abigail Spencer, who plays a central character on the show, commented on the change of scenery, saying, "It's nice. I've actually done quite a few shows where we lived in a house with my producer and my costars. When I did Rectify, we were in Georgia. It just feels more like you're going there to make something altogether." She added, "And then you're really invested in the community. I've made friends a lot with the local businesses. That's part of what we get to do is invest in community as well."
Notably, 'Best Medicine' follows a doctor who, according to the official synopsis, "moves from the city of Boston, Massachusetts, to a small practice in the East Coast fishing village where he vacationed as a child." The series centers on his adjustment from city life to the quirks and challenges of practicing medicine in a close-knit small-town community. The show had a special advance premiere on Sunday, January 4, 2026, on FOX. It will air in its regular time slot on Tuesdays at 8 pm ET/PT.
The series opener, titled 'Docked', will re-air on Tuesday, January 6, at 8 pm, followed by the winter premiere of medical drama 'Doc', as per Deadline. Producer Ben Silverman shared in a Fox press release that the British show 'Doc Martin' "first came to me through my mother and then, separately, through my father. They're divorced but both artists with exceptional taste," as per Parade.
He added, "I immediately fell in love with Doc Martin, just as I did with the original versions of The Office and Ugly Betty. I know that there had been talks for years about when Doc Martin would come to the U.S., and we knew we needed to take our time to get this right. It is truly rare to find underlying material that so naturally and powerfully translates for an American audience at this specific moment."
