LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Olivia Rodrigo reportedly said she was "very surprised" that fans believed her smash song 'Vampire' was inspired by a rumored rivalry with Taylor Swift.

Many fans were offended by some of the song's lyrics, especially "As you sunk your teeth into me, oh/Bloodsucker, famef***er/Bleedin' me dry, like a godd**n vampire," but the song is not meant to be directed at Taylor Swift.

When asked about the claims that Swift, 33, was the inspiration for 'Vampire', Rodrigo, 20, told The Guardian in a Saturday, September 2, profile, "I was very surprised when people thought that."

Rodrigo added, "I mean, I never want to say who any of my songs are about. I’ve never done that before in my career and probably won’t. I think it’s better to not pigeonhole a song to being about this one thing."

What is the relationship between Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift?

Olivia and Taylor first ran across each other and appeared to spark a developing connection when Rodrigo's music career started to take off in 2021.

In the same year, she had previously informed Billboard that the 'Bad Blood' hitmaker had written to her after releasing songs like 'Drivers License'.

"I don't want to divulge too much because it’s really sweet and personal. But she talks a lot about how, I think, you make your own luck in the world. And when you do kind things to others, good things come your way," the actress detailed.

However, after the pair stopped hanging out, fans started to think something was wrong with their friendship in the years that followed.

Olivia's album 'Sour', which was published in 2021, had copyright problems with some of the songs, including 'Deja Vu'.

Rodrigo eventually gave Swift both a co-writing credit and earnings since the star had redone a melody from Taylor's 'Cruel Summer'. Later, she had to handle a similar circumstance with Paramore.

"I love Cruel Summer. That’s one of my favorite songs ever. I love the yell-y vocal in it, the harmonized yells she does. I feel like they’re super electric and moving, so I wanted to do something like that," the beauty told Rolling Stone in 2021.
